It's actually pointless trying to persuade people that get their facts from the very places they're convinced are distorting every other fact they don't want to believe. If it fits the narrative, it's now factual.

The mind boggles how mankind dragged itself out of the pestiges, the poverty, the suffering, into the modern society with seamless reliability of coal- heated steam driven electricity.
Only the mentally sick, the naive or the easily led think that overnight this has become enviable.

Peat and coal have been wonderful for the development of mankind, there isn't anyone arguing against that.

Happy to hear any argument for any resource or tech that keeps our economy competitive in a low cost labour market, post away cause this story about the mentally sick sounds real cool

Sorry bud, your assertion that coal bad, renewables good because the banks won't fund new fossil fuel developments (and it's only because of simple external political pressure) is sheer crap. Go away quickly.

Banks were first in first out when it came to social licence to operate. My mates wife works at the bank and now they are quietly exiting volunteer environmental reporting as compliance costs are too high and it's reporting that no shareholder of any worth asks for.

Coal isn't bad it's just not the cheapest way for power generation

What cheapest? Capex, opex, what location, what duration?

For Australia coal is the cheapest long term supply of electricity.

Problem with too many people is that they cannot understand that there is more than the generation part making the end cost to the user, or the destructive impact on the planet.

The narrow-minded gullible types, usually the ones that have never been involved in the construction, generation and distribution of electricity, will squeal and rant about the solar panels and wind turbines making the cheapest power. Once they're sitting there that is.
Never mentioned is the outrageous cost to produce these farces, the short service life and the huge cost to the planet to dispose of them.

Additionally, they say "cheap, cheap" but fail to realise, because they live on front of a TV tuned into the ABC, that whilst you might like to sit in the dark when the sun doesn't shine, the wind is either too weak or too strong, and all the underprivileged children sent down underground to dig up the elements needed for the ineffective, exploding batteries have all perished, not to mention the millions of tons of copper to connect all this crap where it will actually work, to where the ABC fans sit.
But the big one... business cannot run, grow, make, and transport your lives using this clusterf**..

Let alone that all the credible studies (and no, you look it up) show that renewables, during their service lives, NEVER pay for the cost to both the planet and the dollar value that they costed to make, install and dispose of.

There's more to the standard of living and life's modern privileges required than the point of generation and the method. But don't let the facts ruin your fantasies.
