Yeah, me too. I got the same email.

i've got a email from the fella who runs the big game comp at ripley QLD who's said the same as wapati , that pta approval is for one class of shooting only , sports at the range or recreational . not both .pending approval.... i reckon the fella running the comp would know . i know for a fact one of the guys in that comp needed a letter from the club for a rifle , and he's currently state champ in that class . i'm a ssaa member but i don't trust the leadership of the club . which is why i'm a shooters union member and support politics reloaded . step up now fellas as wapati has suggested . for the cost of a carton of beer membership to a shooting advocate group otherwise WA type restrictions are going to spread if changes to weapons licensing go unchallenged . act now

That may not be consistent with the Gun Laws . Your supposed to be able to practice at a range so you can be a proficient and safe recreational shooter . Putting a restriction of only one class of shooting on a PTA for a certain caliber goes against that part of the Act . Get lawyers onto it and take the Police commissioner to court . He can only make extra regulations that are consistent with the Act .

The law states that only category A firearms do not require a genuine need be provided. All other categories a need must be provided. In the past category B was just rubber stamped but now things are starting to change.

If there are genuine concerns then I would suggest those affected file a complaint, I'm sure that's what Shooters Union would have told their members to do ..........

I've had my PTA rejected for a .338 Norma, because wanted to use it for ELR and Hunting they wanted property name, size etc. and written permission letter from the owner

since I can't get a written permission on an NSW R license until I book I could not supply one, I do hold a R license, in NT you just pay and I don't even think you can get a written permission

they justification was that it's on the in public interest so they denied the PTA, I will open a QCAT case this week

hey mate , sorry to hear of your rejection . good luck in your QCAT case . can you explain ELR for me please , and have you contacted shooters union about this matter ?
i'd imagine from what i've been hearing , 338 norma is definitely on WLB's "watch list" . i recently had a second 308 bolt rifle approved within 3 weeks with no scrutiny . they've definitely got a line for what is acceptable to them in terms of chamberings . i'm wondering how i'd go re-barrelling a 270win into a 35 whelen ? would i receive a email telling me this is unacceptable ? WLB through their own self righteous arrogance and beurocratic entitlement , have started a real sh!t fight. i see unity within firearms owners and retailers as a whole to apply political pressure is the only way to combat this issue . you could spend a lot of money on lawyers and get nowhere .
again good luck and well wishes to you . please keep us on this forum informed of how your going with this . cheers
