Differing "qualities" of Diesel fuel.

Has any of you blokes noticed differences in the quality of Diesel ?

Today I did a trip that was identical as many beforehand, as in,

Exact same route,,
Exact same time of day,,
Same vehicle,,
Same load,,

This same trip has always worked out to be 1/4 tank of diesel there and back.

The only exception with todays trip was it turned out to be 1/8 tank of diesel there and back.

The only thing I can put it down to is,,,,, Better quality fuel,, ie: Higher Cetane rating.

Anybody else noticed similar variations :unknown:

Not with Diesel, but I only use 98RON petrol because it gives me better mileage, especially on bikes.

I used to get 50km a tank less at a certain station. i repeated this test many times and the result was the same. I was filling up on the bosses dime.

I was always sceptical about the “premium” diesel.
I have however, filled up my last two tanks with “premium” diesel and fuel economy has been consistently better. Not a world beater but I am beginning to think that perhaps the premium diesel product is better. Haven’t taken the time to calculate if the increase in price is accounted for with the better economy. I think the results would be negligible at best.

I get the best mileage on the cheapest one. And my engine just feels better tuned to it. It’s an ethanol blend. But it dose’nt bother my old s**t box.

Maybe because no one else buys it so the tank in the ground is always near full.
I think you start getting crap fuel when that in ground tank is low because of the crud at the bottom. And theres more water at the bottom.
I dream of a world where chickens can cross the road without having their motives questioned
