7.62X54R Surplus

I have been looking for a spam can of 7.62X54r for a while now but there is just none around. I have however found 1 can in NSW for sale and I'm in Victoria. I am willing to drive up there to buy it but before I organise to do it does anyone know of any for sale somewhere in Victoria?

Not that I'm aware of, there were 2 cans in NSW 1 Albanian and 1 Polish. 500 PPU in Qld and 320 PPU in NSW is the only bulk sales I know of. I reload so I don't look often.

I only want a spam can for the sake of having one. The commercial stuff advertised is a little expensive. I can get new PPU for $2 per round or a little less if buying in bulk but I have a fair amount of it that I bought when it was only $1 per round. Out of curiosity how much does it cost to reload a round. I will never bother to reload as I just don't go through enough to warrant the expense of setting up to reload. I bought bulk ammo for all my centrefire rifles just as the prices were starting to go up and during Covid when people were off loading.

My 7.62 Russian works out a smidgin cheaper at 74.8c/round but only because I am still using primers I paid $16.50 a slide for, but projectiles are a little dearer (Hornady 303 174g bulk 1800 for $950). I load 50.5g of 2209. I only shoot about 250 rounds a year of 7.62x54R but I reload a number of rifle & pistol calibers using around 3500 to 4000 per year so the set up costs for reloading equipment are amortized across those making it financially viable.

Thanks for that. Obviously still cheaper in most cases to load your own but if you have to go out and buy all the gear it will take a long time just to break even. I don't go through enough rounds to justify it. Last time I bought factory 223 loads they were $19/20 for soft points but I bought a huge amount of the Italian made Perfecta FMJ @440/1000 when it was available.
I did reload for the shotgun when I was trap shooting and it saved a fortune but now it is more expensive to load your own if you can find the components however you can still save with field loads.
