License Verification for Small Arms Ammunition - Fact Sheet

https://www.police.qld.gov.au/weapon-li ... fact-sheet

The Qld Community Safety Act has amended the Explosives Act 1999 (Qld) and inserted new laws that require sellers of small arms ammunition to verify the buyer’s weapons licence details at the time of purchase.

Under the new laws, the seller must sight the buyer’s weapons licence or interstate authority (e.g. a visitor’s licence) and verify the licence or authority using the online licence verification system.

Next step will be "justify why you need 20 rounds"

It's been like that here in NSW for a long time. I have no problem with that.

More regulations and red tape AKA more tyranny.

Should we verify our drivers licence to the Indian at the BP servo when we buy diesel?

Only powder and primers need a licence by law. Store policy may ask for more though.

Verify via the "online verification system"?
That's going to slow the cashier lines up at Cleavers on an normal shopping day....

Probably not.
The verification takes seconds - only needs input of licence number and DOB.
I've just checked with my own.

Ok, but why?
You show your current firearms licence at the checkouts now for ammo, firearms parts, whatever, the expiry date is clear and the classes too.
More BS, and yep, I bet, another stepping stone.

Victoria you very much do show license for ammo. You can purchase whatever caliber ammo too.
Again no issue, it's just a gunshop glancing at plastic. It's not tracked afaik here.

Stupid huh, but I guess you aren't using them for fishing sinkers.
But then again, no more sending the unlicensed missus to pick up your phone orders eh?

Yeah but they don’t have to type it into a computer and get it verified.

I think that’s what this is about. To record the type and quantity you buy. Why would they want a record of that.

Here is the link here on weapons licesning website. Just put your licence number and expiry in and it comes up if it is issued or suspended.

Every time you get a new condition code on your licence they send you a new card and you still have the old card. So you can have multiple cards for the same licence. A and B category licences last for 10 years and all other categories last for 5. So you can in theory if criminally inclined sell your licence to someone who looks like you and it can last for 10 years. In which time they can buy ammo, mags and other parts.

I think you're all conspiracy-theorising it a little. Maybe that will happen in the future here, and it's obvious to anyone that the people there now are definately pushing this agenda slowly, slowly bit-by-bit and seeing if they can slowly put the screws on.
But I bought some ammo in town yesterday and with a sigh the shop owner looked me up with my plastic, said yep, and logged out.
Nothing was recorded online.
Now powder was a different story, fill in the powder book with WL#, name, address & phone number, as it has been for a few years now.
I'm told those books just need to be kept for a nominal timeframe, and are not routinely sent in.

that's weird . primers, powder and factory ammo license must be verified. but projectiles ? in QLD you can buy any ammo , not just specifically for what firearms you personally own . so i can loan a gun off a friend and buy ammo for it .
i understand in other states you can only buy ammo for firearms registered to your license. i think this is designed to make it harder for unregistered firearms to be supplied with ammo with regards to crims and bikies.

Buy any ammo in Vic just show your licence.

Though i imagine this is coming here soon too.

Probably then a push for a national ammo register .

I think QLD is the only state where ammo and firearms are under different legislation.

The weapons act allows police to do gun safe inspections but the explosives act does not allow police to do ammo inspections. So never agree to let the police look at your ammo if they ask as they have no legal authority to. Ammo can be legally kept in a locked tackle box on your kitchen table if you so wish however this is stupid practice but legal so do as a freeman does and follow the law within the lines however you wish.

How do you buy ammo in WA out of curiosity ?

Assuming that’s even legal there.

Probably need a retina scan and a letter from a psychiatrist and have to transport it in a safe bolted to a wall on a trailer.

I remember when that was came in in NSW, they had to record all the details down including addresses. I went to Abelas and bought some ammo with a ACT licence and they didn't know whether they could sell to me. 2 weeks later the book (which was just a school exercise pad) got nicked off the counter. Crims would've just gone through that for 9mm ammo and had a shopping list of houses to break into.
