Interesting find

Was cleaning out the floor of the buggy of 308 cases and found this one on the floor. From a rifle that ejects the cases via a gas system. No idea what happened here, no shots felt or sounded weird, of any bullets went where they weren't supposed to.
These cases have had a few reloads and are at the point of getting retired or lost overboard. Any ideas?

Whatever happened to it didn't happen while it was in the chamber (if it did it would still retain the shape of the chamber). Maybe a hangfire that you extracted quickly and it detonated on the way down or after it landed. Or you dropped a live round and something else caused it to detonate later on.

They get spat out automatically and directed down at my footwell via a clip-on deflector, handy to keep them but also good as they don't end up burning a hole or an eye out of a passenger or one of my dogs. That can be distracting.
All the pills went where they were supposed to, so it was a surprise. I thought someone was playing a joke on me.
