DIY M96/38 sporter stock

recently got a another M38, don't want to damage the military stock so put it on a sporter stock, find out it's a really good hunting rifle, slim, easy to handle, light weight(kind of), mild recoil, less bullet drop, powerful but not overkilled and easy to use sight (the front sight is much better than 98k)

feels something is missing and sometimes hold and carry the rifle feels not perfect
so I bought a top wood and some parts refit it to make the No.5 style stock for it

That’s a good looking rifle. That wood really took in the stain well.
They don’t make wood like that anymore.

Alas something else is still missing.
Because if you slung it over your shoulder it would fall off.
Apart from that I have no complaints

And will now need to find something else to complain about.

I'm looking for a M96/38 stock for my rifle that was poorly sporterised. I'd like to try and restore my rifle to more like it's original condition.
Please let me know if you'd like to sell the one you're not using.
Mines a 1915 Carl Gustav that was converted. The stock on mine just looks terrible

full set original stock is rare now and won't be cheap, for that kind of money sometimes you can find a good sporter m38 or if lucky enough couple of hundred dollars more you can find original M38 rifle so I don't think buy a full set of military stock is a good idea

now the sporter inc. sling weights less than 3.5kg after replace original butt plate and sling attachment, those metal hardware is heavy...

lightweight sling attachment solution...
still 3.5kg is not a ultra light rifle but consider semi-heavy barrel, strong action and better(long range adjustable) sight, I'd call it my mountain rifle, will try the luck next time go to the farm for goat hunting

Rifle is coming up beautifully, now just need a nice Fallow or Hog in the sights, maybe a Billy or Pig as well. Happy Hunting.

You're not wrong. I just found on Oz Gun Sales an after market sporterised stock. Ideally I wanted and original M96/38, but I'll happily settle for this, it's in good condition and was well made and maintained, but could use a little work.
My current stock is original, I believe. But it looks like someone sporterised it very crudely with a hacksaw and file.
