Sim Cards For Trail Cameras

Hi All

I'm keen to buy a trail camera that sends live pictures/video to your phone, and had my eye on one of these:

For those of you running a setup like this, what sim card plan/carrier did you go with?

Started at 10 bucks a month.
Then they increased it to 15
Then they increased it to 18

Was still the cheapest I could find. And I also have a tracker on my ute with one. Which is worth considering. Ute goes missing I’m really screwed.

Problem is, coverage.
If you mount that thing up wood woop likely the only coverage you’ll get, if any, is with Telstra.
And that’s a fancy camera too. And they get pinched.
I buy cheap ones for 30 bucks of eBay complete with a memory card. Run on batteries. But they work just fine. Have sound too. Don’t connect to your phone though.

Thanks for that... I might be limited to Telstra in our area.

We have a creek on the boundary of our block the deer (and dogs) like to pass through on their way to the neighbours paddock.

If I put it at a clearing at the start of the creek it gives me a 200m head start to go sit and wait at a spot overlooking a wallow (assuming I don't put it on the wallow itself). Could do a similar trail for our back paddock too.They like to sit in the corner with the trees on one side and a dip that shelters them from view on another side.

If I spent this sort of money on a camera I would be putting it a bit higher so they can't get it without carting a ladder into the bush. Not 100% safe but a good extra measure

Aldi do cover our area which is great. $23 for a sim plan, not sure how that compares to pre-paid

I think aldi sim plan works like prepaid anyway.

It may pay to research how much data the camera uses, if any. and how to avoid it chewing 10gb in a day uploading videos of a bird walking back and forth.
