Remington 700 spring

Post by 4range » 03 Nov 2025, 12:54 pm

Hi all,

First post here.

I want to swap out my firing pin spring (short action) for a new spring as a matter of maintenance.

I have not been able to locate a new replacement spring in Australia through Google searches.

Wolf Springs will not ship internationally, so I am at a loss as to where to look next.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance!

Curious, why do you feel it's needed?

Numrich Gun Parts (gunpartscorp.com): World's largest supplier of Remington parts (new, used, and obsolete for models like 700, 760, Rolling Block). They explicitly ship internationally. this is from AI research, hope it helps

i've bought stuff from pacific tool and gauge . but do a shopping list as the postage was about $78 to brisbane for a little post package . you will also need a tool for disassembly i believe , as you have to drive out a roll pin while holding all the bits together . i think you can find one locally . i was searching the other week on this subject . hope this helps , cheers
on second thought you might be better letting a smith handle this as without the right tools this could get tricky .

Numrich stopped export orders in 2017 from memory.

If you order under $100 of parts PTG will ship to Aus

I recently ordered and received 1 x Remington Firing Pin, 1 x Aluminium bolt shroud and a new ejector kit. The total was $88 US, firing pin springs are only $9.......

I'd suggest you register and then place an order, the lighter firing pin improves lock time and may aid accuracy......apparently ;)

that's good sound advice for the OP IMHO  i've bought from PTG before . my 222 rem 700 was made in 1980 and still runs it's original spring and firing pin . another thing to consider is a different strength firing spring could change trigger pull weight and necessitate trigger adjustment

Thanks everyone for the responses, didnt think to try pacific tools...kinda think of them in terms of Reamers only...excellent prompt.

The action is quite old, was sleeved and trued by Alan Swan, and as the bolt has been pretty much stored in the cocked position every time its put away, I would like to replace the spring as a matter of servicing....I will replace like with like i.e 24lbs....should provide consistant ignition on going.

I'm aware of the minor complexity with replacing the spring. (I have lost one or 2 springs / pins and grub screws ...its a skill I've had for some time :D ...).

Off to Pacific I go.
