Gun storage for family member..

Post by fnq22 » 18 Nov 2025, 7:55 pm

I'm just wondering about the legality of my son, who rents and has no safe, storing a handgun in my safe 3 hours away from where he works and lives....he only shoots at my local club anyway when he comes home so doesnt need the hassle of instaling a safe in his rental house....He is a new licencee and doesnt yet own a gun aside from a slug-gun.in my name..

But I dont know whether it might be a problem regarding a random inspection ...

Yes, he can share your safe so long as it is his nominated storage address, but he can only access the safe if he has the appropriate licence for all classes of firearm in that safe. As for inspections, just keep a photocopy of his licence and registration details on hand or preferably in the safe. Cheers.

You would also need a pistol licence I reckon.
