Hoping for some 12 gauge chamber reamer help

Post by Larks » 26 Nov 2025, 7:23 pm

I’m wondering if anyone here may be able to put me in touch with a 2 3/4” 12 gauge chamber reamer (from 2 1/2”). Either via a qualified gunsmith who can do the job or a reamer for sale or hire.

I’m in SE Qld (Gold Coast area) but can post it to a suitable gunsmith if that’s my only option.

I know Swan Barrels in Brisbane can do 3” but I’m not sure if I can or want to go that far (it’s an older SxS).

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Larks.
Outside of contacting all the smiths you can find I would just import your own reamer.

https://mansonreamers.com/product/12-gauge-chamber-reamer/
https://www.brownells.com/tools-cleaning/bore-barrel-tools/reamers-cutters/shotgun-chambering-reamers/
With the closing of Brownells here I can't find anything on the website stating that they won't ship to us now, so you may be in luck with them.
There are likely a bunch of European sources as well, but unless they have Engish websites they can be hard to find.

You can also trawl through US Ebay listings hoping to find somebody that is happy to send one to you.

Thanks for the response Bladeracer, those links are a great help and it looks like importing one may be the way to go (and may also be useful to have here if another 2 1/2” chambered shotgun comes up that others might be shy of). Getting Brownells to ship anything out of the US seems to be an issue these days which is a real shame because they generally seem to be pretty good value.

You also talk to a machine shop locally about cutting you a reamer, but it might work out more expensive than importing one. Also worth contacting shotgun clubs in case a member has what you're chasing.

I think it was 2017 when some changes were made to ITAR that scared a lot of US companies off exporting. Brownells was good because we had the Aussie portal, who had all the import permissions in place (so we didn't need B709's), but that collapsed early this year (but still threatening to reopen at some point I think). Numrich and Liberty Tree were especially useful sellers until then :-(

I saw a post on Facebook a couple days ago from a business in the US offering to buy parts and send them on to us but the bloody feed refreshed before I could screen shot it. It was a dealer I think, but not one I've ever heard of.

Just to add my 2c I've heard Rolf hey is a wizard at Shotgun work but havent dealt with him personally.

I've been keeping an eye on people who work with shotguns as I plan to hunt down a Greener MK3 and pull the original barrel, as I have zero desire to make bottlenecked 12G but it will also allow me to restore it at any moment.

otherwise, as was suggested importing is a valid option I have imported a few things and some firearms and always went through an importer and he has been nothing but helpful however if you want to do it yourself you could potentially need a B709 or B709a though for a reamer im unsure.
I just wanted something here...

Thanks New Guy, I’ll drop Rolf an email and see if he can help (it’s a shame the Hobart Wooden Boat Festival isn’t on next year or I could take it down myself) . Very much appreciated mate.
