MEMBER UPDATE
Dig in: This is a long-term fight!
Dear Wapiti,
Members need to be clear-eyed about what is happening now.
Despite public comments from the NSW Premier suggesting this issue will be resolved quickly, this fight will not be over before Christmas.
NSW Parliament has been recalled and proposals to change firearms legislation are actively being reviewed. None of the measures being discussed would have prevented the Bondi terror attack. None will reduce the risk of future terrorist activity. What they will do is punish responsible Australians while governments deflect from their failure to address terrorism, antisemitism and extremist behaviour.
This is not a short campaign. We need members to dig in.
NSW: Parliament recalled, bad policy accelerated.
The NSW Government has recalled Parliament and is actively reviewing proposed changes to firearms legislation.
These proposals are being rushed under emotional and political pressure, not evidence. They are disconnected from reality and focused on optics rather than outcomes. If you have not already done so, contact your State and Federal Members of Parliament NOW and continue to do so. This pressure matters. So do the petitions currently circulating - sign them and share them widely.
National Update with Graham Park
Graham Park gives an urgent update to members and supporters about the current political landscape for firearm owners in Australia. With important developments in Queensland and New South Wales, Graham outlines Shooters Union’s ongoing advocacy efforts, including engagement with major political parties, campaigning, and nationwide outreach.
Over a million people are being reached, and tens of thousands are taking action to make their voices heard. This is just the beginning. Upcoming elections in New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia mean that firearm policy will become a key issue — and Shooters Union is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the rights of responsible owners are defended.

This is a National Issue
\While NSW is the immediate battleground, every jurisdiction must be engaged. Silence elsewhere will be taken as consent.
Examining NSW Gun Law Proposals and National Immigration Policy
What happened at Bondi Beach on the December 14th was not a gun law failure, it was an intelligence and policy failure, and responsible firearm users should NOT pay for it.
Shooters Union National President Graham Park, examines politically inconvenient issues with Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party Queensland-based leader Senator Pauline Hanson in our latest national update video. WATCH NOW
South Australia – election approaching
South Australia has an election coming up. SA members, this matters. Local MPs and candidates must be made acutely aware that they will pay a price at the ballot box for the actions and inactions of Anthony Albanese and Chris Minns if they fail to find their voice now.
They need to stand up for Australians, not deflections, misinformation and sensationalist politics that do nothing to improve public safety. Start those conversations now - before election messaging hardens.
Victoria and Tasmania – silence is not neutral
Victoria and Tasmania have been relatively quiet on the actions of the Albanese and Minns Governments.
Members in both states should contact MPs and make it clear that this silence is being noticed. Support will be impacted by what they choose to do next - and even more so if they do nothing while Australians are unfairly targeted for the actions of terrorists. They need to hear from you directly.
Queensland and the Northern Territory –
support, but stay alert
Queensland and the Northern Territory appear to be holding their ground for now. That support should be acknowledged - but do not assume it will hold. History shows governments fold when it becomes politically convenient.
Members in QLD and NT should:
Thank representatives for resisting bad policy so far
Make it clear that continued support depends on them maintaining that position
Remind them that penalising ordinary Australians is not a counter-terrorism strategy
Early pressure helps prevent later backflips.
What needs to happen next
This campaign now requires sustained pressure, not short bursts of activity.
Keep contacting MPs
Keep signing and sharing petitions
Keep engaging people in your networks
Keep reminding governments that Australian's expect evidence-based policy, not panic responses.
This is not about one state, one parliament sitting, or one news cycle.
Save your Firearms Fund
Shooters Union Australia has established the Save your Firearms Fund to ensure these proposed laws do not go unchallenged.
This fund will directly support the legal, political and public advocacy efforts required to stop these new laws BEFORE they gain momentum. That means expert legal advice, policy analysis, targeted lobbying, media campaigns, and rapid response actions to counter misinformation and hold decision makers to account.
History shows that buy-backs don’t stop crime — but they do set dangerous precedents. Once lawful firearms are on the table, nothing is ever “off limits” again. This fight isn’t just about shooters today; it’s about protecting evidence-based law making and stopping fear-driven policy from becoming permanent.
Every dollar donated strengthens our ability to push back — loudly, credibly, and effectively. Governments count on silence and fatigue. This fund ensures they get neither. If you believe responsible firearm owners should not pay the price for criminal acts, now is the time to stand up and be counted.
Because if we don’t fight this — no one else will. DONATE NOW
This is a long-term fight and it will be won the same way others have been: through numbers, persistence and refusing to let bad policy pass quietly. We will continue to provide updates as this unfolds.
Until next time
