Is it true that Aussie wholesalers can’t import and distribute ammunition? Because of the new laws

what i've been told is that they can , but the permit system has changed . there may be a hold up with stuff held at the docks and existing orders from overseas till customs can work out how to deal with the changes that've happened overnight . a transition period would've been nice for ALL involved

take what i've said with a grain of salt but ;)

I heard again take it with a pinch of salt that dealers will have to obtain an Attorney General import qualification per individual to be allowed to import firearms.
Previously it was a State permit and if you were a dealer you could import many firearms, long and short under a blanket permit. These were valid for 12 months.
Now they have to be presold to consumers and an AG permit obtained before they're allowed to import.

Not sure how imported ammo will work but on the same logic, a wholesaler would probably have to show justification that the amount of ammo they intend to import is justifiable right down the supply chain.

What would it mean for the poor punter?
Longer wait times, increased costs and if it creates a supply restriction, I'd say higher prices.

Along with all the other draconian restrictions being placed on law abiding citizens, dating back to the J W Howard era, and before, the "new" resrtictions have got NOTHING to do with safety in the community.
It's about control - Absolute Control.

The AG has a big department already bumbling along making everything take longer that it should.
Anyone who's had to simply get the AG Dept to release a Cat C or D firearm from the "bond" will quickly realise that the red tape and qualification needed to get your individual state's license and subsequent PTA approved from your relevant WL is a piece of cake, compared to the further scrutiny and dragging out that the AG public servants ordeal is.
It's like groundhog day.

Like I've said before, if these public servants had the same performance measures as private sector employees have, that is working to a budget, balancing the books and quick service for their customers, they'd be booking into the doctor for mental health stress compo.

Mate you are comparing apples to oranges. A government department is not a business and therefore has different priorities.

No they will never stop. They want to make it arduous so most people give up.

Yes, that is so true.
A lot of blokes used to enjoy going on a hunting trip once or twice a year with mates, but gave it away because of the red tape.

They're the people I worry the most about.
Sure, they are numbers in then totals of gun owners, but they are the people I call the
"fair weather shooters"
They are the blokes who won't protest, write to their politicians, be financial members of shooting political orgs like SU etc.
At the first sign of having to stand up, they bail.
Then go buy a jet-ski and ruin the swimming for the families having a weekend out.

Me......well I just target shoot now and talking to the local GShops that I use regularly and it was stated by both that 1: they both believe that they will survive the economic challenges brought about by the Albo Sleazy government but 2: Ammo and reloading components will also increase, to what extent, not sure at this point in time. :unknown:
