I don’t care if it makes us look weak. They can make us look as weak as they want. All I care about is reducing the chance of some hot headed immigrant full of hate from another land , getting his hands on a firearms license in Australia.
Because if he does, that increases the risk of law abiding Australian citizens with gun licenses facing further restrictions.
No citizenship, no firearms license.

So you support Australian citizen for car and boat licences also? Or you just bigoted towards guns?

First of all I am not a bigot. In fact I welcome immigrants. In fact I would go as far to say that this country needs immigrants. We always have, we always will.
But, in my opinion giving a non Australian citizen a firearm in our country is crossing a line.
If you want to own a firearm in our country I believe you need to show some proof of commitment to our country first.
You are a fool if you jump to the conclusion that I am a bigot.
Alex, I would say that I have been very much aligned with so many of your posts and political opinions on this forum.
But we disagree on this one.
That’s ok. We don’t agree.
But please don’t jump to conclusions that I am a bigot.
It’s ok to disagree.
I think you might be surprised if you really new me.

In regard's to gun laws nothing can override state law. The states are ultimate authority in that regard.

Yes the Commonwealth controls importation. However that does not negate the fact that the states are ultimate authority in regards to guns in this federation.
