I agree and appreciate those sentiments mate, great to have you contribute.
People who've had a go, stuffed up and finally had some success can share those things and really do help others.

That's awesome news.

I was heading down this year for the rutt, but family health issues have delayed me a year.
Haven't hunted Victoria yet.
I really like the more to explore app.
Lots of area for hunting.

Ah yes, i lost that ballot. That's another reason why i'm heading to Vulcan. Though i might try Olney after that. It's nice & close. Anyone been up there?

Flavius...

Olney looks okay.
I personally haven't been there, but I cannot see why it wouldn't hold game.

I also forgot to add.....
When you booked Vulcan, did you book Gurnang as well?
It's just down the road and worth booking over the same period, just in case vulcan is not happening.

I try and book another Forrest close by to give me more area to hunt.
Some of these places are tiny.

No i didn't! That's some mighty fine advice there, but i still have time to book that as well. That said, i am concerned about that narrow morning window. Who knows? Maybe i'll get lucky. But Olney would have to be a bow hunt as i can't be stuffed booking a hotel for that area. I'm very familiar with the Central Coast. Very popular biker spot. Used to ride there a lot. Not many roos or wombats, but cliffs? They'll jump out at ya!

Well, Gurnang is booked out, so i'm stuck with Vulcan alone. The guys at St Mary's, after seeing my benchrest results, suggested trying different ammo from the PPU Soft Points i've been using & bought a tonne of. 2 different AIs suggested trying flat based projectiles as the boat tails used in the PPU's are known to be finicky with milsurps like mine. That said, i've seen so many folks with smellies like mine get awesome results with the exact same ammo! But, different horses for different courses, so i might try that. But either way, it's looking more & more like Vulcan will be a bowhunt

At least you have a good chance there.

There's nothing stopping you from walking around the other places though. Just leave the bow on the car.
I do it often.
Go a suss out some new area. Sometimes I don't even book to hunt.
I leave the bang stick at home and just go hiking.
You can cover far more terrian with just a camelbak on.

The ol SMLE can have some pretty varied bore/groove diameter, plus wear. You may need fatter projectiles if you can get em. I used .312 in mine to stop tumbling.

Wierdly, there is no tumbling. The holes are perfectly round. I thought i was just really really s**t! Nevertheless i'll try it if changing brands don't get better results
