I just love a good conversation.
Ruger M77 II.
Love the action. What a miserable trigger. Really! these things belong somewhere else. Heavy, travel from here to Adelaide. WT?
OK, working on the trigger.
Likes 70gr. Would like it to like 85gr as well.
What's yr choice of powder? Don't want to experiment for days on end. 2209? I got plenty of that.
My wife knows me well.
The dog often reminds me of that

I use a M77 MkII VT used to load 87g Vmax with 46g of 2209 with good results MoA at 500m, now loading 90g ELD-X at 43.5g of 2209 producing same results with a little less powder. Would do better with a better shooter I'm sure.

I use 2208 with 85gr Sierra hpbt, but I'm sure 2209 will do the job as well.
I went with 2208 because I use it in other rifles, so thought id make my 243 up out of that.

I'm getting just under 3100fps if that helps.

87 vmax and around 35gn of 2208 . that load works good in a lot of 243's . refer to adi load data though . if i remember correctly a lighter charge of 2208 with that bullet is a great target load, shoots bug holes
i've got the first m77 with tang safety . good trigger when their tweaked . you can get timney parts to tweak the mk2 ruger trigger . i know some fellas with early mk2 rugers , lovely slick 98 style action. the other thing to do with rugers is get the scope rings lapped . cheers

2208 and 2209 for sure.
2208 seems better for the lighter ones, 2209 for the heavier.
I also tried 2213SC which for the 90gn and above shocked me with how fast it drives them, in fact at 1gn below max in the ADI or Uncle Nick's manual, was just at 3300fps for the average with a spread of 3fps!
The 90gn Hot Cor would be my choice if you are considering smaller deer breeds or pigs.
VMax or any tipped or HP bullets are varmint bullets, might shoot great but are definitely very inconsistent on the above.
If persuing dogs, well they'd be fine, but I'd choose 70-75gn HP bullets then.

But asking any of us what load is any good won't give you a scorcher, you will definitely have to try what you reckon works in your rifle, including playing with the jump to the lands.
