PMC ammo

A heads up for any shooters that don't receive the specials emails from Cleavers Firearms.
Anyone wanting cheap but quality ammo and wishing to try PMC 223 and 308, this is available both at $1/round inn 223 and $1.50 for 308.
IMHO having used it, it's pretty good and for suitable game it doesn't give anything away.
Yes the bullets are not fancy tipped stuff, just convectional soft points but they are very effective. The brass for handloading seems great too.
There's some 124gn HP for 9mm too, for those who need some HP's used on the land.

Someone told me that when considering ppu or pmc , ( in the small fast calibres) use the pmc. For thin skinned game and the ppu for the tougher game. I have a lot of experience with 243 vmax 87. I like the way that it blows up and stays inside even smallish pigs. The other night I shot a smallish pig with 223 ppu and it went straight thru , displaying exactly what I was told about it. Cleavers have actually a lot of 223 Chesp atm quite a few different brands and offerings all roughly 20 bucks a box.

Good info.
Cheers.

Relatively good price for ammo there wapiti.
I don't have either of those cartridges.
Better tell the wife I need to buy a 308 so I can take advantage of these amazing ammo deals...

I'm not into following the latest fads, Damo. That's not to be a smart arse comment, it's just that the cartridge works so well for everything us mere mortals get to shoot, either for meat or for work.
It always amuses me that there's always a better mousetrap, a smaller longer bullet in that case, guaranteed to solve all people's ability limitations. More range that is only a few clicks in elevation anyway, at ranges no hunter can shoot to at any rate except in their dreams, plus more on paper miracles. But it sells more rifles, makes enthusiasts change barrels, keep the dream alive.
223 and 308 is a dream to get components for, ammo for cheap (depending on your description of cheap) and I reckon from visitors here over time, people should spend less time studying ballistics and glossy ads, and more time developing their experience in the bush. The range is not reality in the bush.

I also concur with Blr243, PPU in both 308 and 223 has generally performed better on tougher game. They are a step up from plastic tipped stuff. If you have tge luck to stumble on a very tough shoulder-sheild pig, I would want the PPU projectile any day.
Same goes for 223. If you want to step up this little cartridge, which is really only for varmints, the tougher PPU projies will penetrative way deeper than fragile, unsuitable for all-round use ballistic tips or Vmax's.
But yeah I know, everyone gets lucky.

I have had trouble with 5o v max from a 22250 and 58 v max in a 243 ( surface blow ups ) but not so with the 87 vmax. For me they are the perfect bullet

I used to like them too, but only ever used them on dogs.
Till I started some weird fetish I have of taking something different for a stroll in the afternoons as it's cooled down a little, and I got onto a reasonable boar I'd been seeing around for few weeks. Well i did a dumb thing and got confused cos I thought I'd re-zeroed it for the Speer 70 and 75 grain HP's. So I shot it in the chest instead of the head. Well this was a big failure, the projectile I mean.
Maybe in another shot 10mm off to one side things would have been different, but the poor thing bolted, and luckily I found it hiding in some flood rubbish in a creek, about to have a go.
For me, or my skill level which is definitely average for a bloke who usually shoots every day, the 90gn CorLokt is the king for 243 and big pigs. I'm not a varmint shooter. And where I am, this doesn't happen if I take a rifle with a cartridge with adequate power and an all-round bullet.
I will use the 135gn Sierra in 308 from now on, it will pop a dog no question and for the pigs, just gotta remember to aim for the front bits that run the show.

Now if I had any brains I'd run a 150gn bullet.
