Need warm gloves

Post by Maxy » 27 May 2026, 8:30 pm

Went out bush to a property last week for a shoot and despite wearing new gloves I soon discovered they were not up to the task. Nothing worse that cold fingers.
My question is:
Can someone suggest a warm pair of gloves to get, that are not too cumbersome while handling a rifle?
Recommendations please.

1. Try looking in countries that actually have a real winter.
2. DON'T get them too tight, or they cut off the circulation.
3. Keep the rest of your body warm (beanie, thermal layers (plural), as this increases circulation to the hands.

I use these ones for hunting and overnight pest control shoots and have never had issues with cold or numb fingers for Vic temperatures.

I like how you can free up your fingers if need be, only downside is when you go to itch your face and get velcro scratching across your eye if fingers are uncovered!

Might seem unfashionable (no camo!) but after trying hunting gloves in NZ of all the big-name hunting clothes brands and having them fall to bits or just not work out, I settled on plain old yellow Riggers gloves. The very soft ones.
I spoke to a pro-hunting guide on one of Tim Wallis's historic deer properties and he used the ones that are lined with sheeps wool, and had no dramas with his rifle, binos, getting stuff in and out of packs etc whilst wearing them.
But each to hiss own. All of my tradie life I had to wear gloves, so doing delicate dexterity jobs has become normal over time, and I don't notice them. I also found fingerless gloves a bit of a joke, myself. That's just me, not a shot at anyone who likes them.
Because fingers get cold, cut, squashed, all that, just the same as the rest of the hands.
