My First Public Land Stag

Hi All

I went out for a hunt last Saturday evening.

On the way into the forest there was a sign by Parks Vic stating there were culling operations in the area.

There had been 14 days of shooting across a 4 month period including two days prior.

I almost went to another spot, but thought if there are enough deer in the area to warrant a cull, there must still be a few kicking around.

I picked an ambush spot but decided to move after 10m.

I saw him moving along a creek bed 200m away and decided to withdraw and intercept him at another point along the creek. It paid off.

He knew something was up, and stopped walking, With the light fading fast I crept in to 30m, and saw him between two trees.

I'd left my hearing protection in the car, so stuffed a felt microphone bag in my right ear and put a finger in my left and took the shot one handed... and dropped him on the spot.

I recorded the whole thing and the video just went live on YouTube for anyone who cares to watch: https://youtu.be/KbOFBAuAz70

Excellent stalk in hard conditions. That was a big bodied beast alright and glad he dropped with one shot. Good shooting too with one hand. I'd spend some money and get some electronic ear molded buds or your hearing will be destroyed fast woth a muzzle brake.

Great stuff, congrats

He looks like a gooden, what length was he?

There is hunting and property pest shooting, but nothing quite like a successful public land deer hunt.
I was on a high for a few weeks after taking a mature croaking buck from one of the most popular high-pressure forests close enough for Sydney hunters.

You should have filled your ears with tissue or b-g roll, like the old codgers, and given us a report on how effective it was.

It should be a great watch when I next do a Pootube session.
