Recently someone on here recomended using the 70mm diameter aluminium foil pie cups as targets for thermals.
What a fantastic success.
I've always just folded up some alfoil sheet and taped it onto a backing sheet.

I tried one of those pie cups late last night to see how good they are, and was really impressed.
All I did was screw a chip board screw through its base with the cordless onto a tree trunk and went back approx 100 meters and had a look.

It was incredible on Black Hot, and lit up like as if someone was shining a powerful torch at me.
On White Hot it was a jet black perfect disc.
With Rainbow it was equally as impressive and very distinct from the background.

I'm sold,,,,,,,,,,, and using nothing else other than these from now on. Thanks heaps to whoever it was that recommended them.

Geez mate, when I saw the title of this topic, I thought it was posted by “dick dastardly” or some old school villain in a black cape, top hat and spikey moustache . lol . Nah, good to hear how well that works for thermal scope sight in. I’ll have to lock that into the memory bank. I think the best part about this technique is emptying the pie tin first. Curry or mushroom is my favourite. Next time I’m passing through your way I’ll have to stop in with some pie tins that need emptying. Cheers

No worries Mate. I’ve been told that those little foil cups can be bought at various stores by the bag as cooking supplies. I was really impressed how they performed on a cold frosty night. It’ll be interesting to see how well they work on a hot summer night.
