Got one of them - team effort

There was a few showers pass through this way after lunch, just as I'd finished spraying for burrs, bastard! But NEVER begrudge any rain at the moment.
So we went for a run, got caught in a few more and then this real long, story happened.
Suffice to say, this pig isn't real old, but he's a solid boy and was causing much grief.
It was his downfall he made the wrong decisions this afternoon, and he lost the game.

I reckon by his tusks, and other little things, that he had more growing yet if he had been somewhere else this afternoon.

I agree.
I got a cross breed a while back, bit smaller than that one above, but the hooks were just as big.
I s**t when it turned and ran towards me. Nearly climbed the tree next to me, but my mate give it a nudge with his 7mm and altered its course thankfully. Worst part of bolts actions.... Got to remember to cycle them. Was easier years ago... haha.

I’ve found the closer you get the more likely they are to turn on you, and the bigger the pig , the less fear they’ve got. I hunt by myself, am very selective about the country I stalk into, and I use decent cals with low power scopes. 2-7 is my favourite all around scope. 308 win for me at a minimum ,snap shooting a 243 in that situation won’t cut it IMHO

That bugger has fathered a few litters and had his fun now. The huge diggings he's been doing to get at the roots of the eucalypts is hard to believe, man these animals are survivors. And trouble.
Personally, when you finally get them, by chance really, it's a disappointment in a way. A hunter knows what I mean.

We were 5m away from this thing.
Scope is useless.
Walked up on the Fkn thing rooting in the ground. Didn't see it till I was on it. Owell here goes.

I hit it with a 180gr soft point with my 300wm.
In through the front right shoulder, cause it did a trump and raised its head when I squeezed.
s**t!

It rolled it onto its back, but then it realised what happened and the adrenalin thrashing began as it stood back up, pointing straight at me.... haha.
Im a deer hunter. Not used to hectic commotion with a bolt actions.

I don't think it was aiming for me as much as that's the direction it was facing when its feet made contact with the ground again.

I've had these hooks for a few years now,,they used to belong to a mountain boar.
Looking down from above they measure 180 mm across from tip to tip.
Imagine the damage they could do to your leg.

Here's three from here, from way back, with the cartridges used to help remind me of their stories at the time.
The length of the grinder tusk sharpening edges shows how impressive they are, to me anyway.
The one with the .22 was taken with a Browning Buckmark .22LR pistol. I was sitting under a tree up in the hills and taking a break and had my eyes closed thinking about a nasty incident in my life at the time, and I heard a snap noise and 6 feet from me, this boar was standing there dead still staring at me.
Way more times than once a pistol has saved me from stories that could have had nasty endings.
It's just a matter of time spent outside I guess that adds this all up.
This is hard, rocky country in the Traprock and tusks get a hard time digging, so there are some smart, exceptional old boars here that have avoided the pig doggers.

The one with the .300, this pig had killed dozens of sheep in the 18-19 drought in the neighbours and was hiding up in here, through a hole in the fence.
People had been after it for a year or more and it had a legend of stories pinned on it, It was this ghost that came out at night and killed stock. I came over a hill and saw it belting a nanny goat over repeatedly to kill and eat it, the scene was a harrowing one and it heard my ute. After what seemed like time dragging out in slow motion, I got the Ruger 77 Mk2 off the dash, ran around the ute and it was flat out at maybe 250m plus, I swung past in front of it and let fly and it got one in the back of the neck right where the spine joins the skull. Instant kill and absolutely a circus shot, complete arse.
It was so old, all its molars were rotten out from decay, and it must've been in agony. I have pics of it somewhere and it's the most frightening nasty looking monster I've ever shot.

First thing I thought mate was, Bugger the tusks are not real great, it's a young fella.
And from the buggers that skulk around the hills here, where nobody has the patience and fitness to walk around and spring them, they are pretty small.

On it being responsible for the strange goings on here, I don't think so.
I have this thing I do, sit down for awhile where things have happened and run it all through my head and think, and what's formed in my mind is this isn't it.
