Public land hunting in Qld formerly rejected

For those of us that have been promoting this for others, it's a real shame.
Biggest shame for me, is that there were only 5000 signatures in this online poll.
Imagine if all the paper-punchers and clay shooters in Qld chipped in with their numbers and stood up for their brothers and sisters who like a bit of a bush stroll.

As reported by The Courier-Mail, a Queensland parliamentary petition calling for regulated public land hunting of feral animals has been formally rejected by the State Government despite attracting more than 5,000 signatures.
The petition, titled “Legalise regulated public land hunting in Queensland”, sought to allow licensed hunters to assist in controlling feral animal populations on public land through a regulated permit system.
SSAA CEO Tom Kenyon told The Courier-Mail that he supported opening public land for private hunting in Queensland in line with NSW and Victoria but cautioned that it should not be viewed as a standalone solution.
“We would argue that private hunting is not a silver bullet; you’re not going to eradicate feral pests just with private hunting, but it is one of the tools, and it’s a tool that governments should embrace,” Mr Kenyon said.
There has also been support from Gun Hunters Association of Australia President Leigh Bernhardt, with Mr Bernhardt stating that appropriately trained and qualified hunters should be able to access public land under a regulated permit system, while stressing the importance of strong governance and training requirements.
Darling Downs cattle producer Peter Kelly has also voiced support for public land hunting, arguing existing government control programs were not adequately addressing feral animal numbers, particularly feral pigs.
In its formal response to the petition, Queensland Environment Minister Andrew Powell confirmed the Government would maintain its long-standing position against recreational hunting on public land.
The Minister said effective pest management requires a coordinated, landscape-scale approach across different land tenures and noted the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation works with neighbouring landholders, regional councils and natural resource management groups to coordinate control programs.
While ruling out recreational hunting on public land, the Minister acknowledged there may be opportunities for recreational hunters to assist with pest management on private land, particularly where coordinated control programs are being undertaken alongside adjacent public land.
The Queensland Government’s response means recreational public land hunting remains prohibited in the state, with private land continuing to provide the primary avenue for licensed hunters to assist with feral animal control.

Yeah, it's sad that only 5,000 signed; shooters sure are their own worst enemies.

A report I heard was that Bob Catter is going to go them after the arrogant minister just laughed at the whole idea and canned it.

The fight to keep what we have left is real.
Public land hunting in Vic and NSW is why shooting is growing, IMO.
Young people are taking up hunting for food after Covid, and the bad times are coming after decades of corruption and corp greed.

I feel the Green slime and Woke govt are scared of real people taking up these wholesome outdoor activities and are going to try and stop all this anti-agenda way of thinking.
Get the kids back to their screens and eating plastic.

What an absolute joke we have never lost public land hunting in VIC we've always had it we even shoot sambar deer in I think it's up to four national parks now only allowed to stalk no dogs which is fair enough how anybody with a 10th of a brain cell could look at the track record we have in Victoria and not have it in their own state is well and truly beyond all reasoning I just don't get it just proves that Crisafulli is just as screwed up as all the rest of them

I must admit, previously I thought that hunting played a very little part in feral animal control.
I know it does in part, which is why I keep campaigning for it, using the NSW and Vic experiences to back up the submissions I've done.
Not sure if it's true, but NSW seems intent in slowly shutting hunters out, I did see some comment during the Minns's Bondi clusterf*ck where I'm sure I saw on Sky a NSW labor minister lamenting that state forest hunting actually supports gun ownership and that was a problem.
Because radicalisation of sickening religious imported ideology isn't the problem. It's guns in decent people's safes. And cars, cricket bats, fence palings and workboots.

But lately I took an interest in the properties out this way that participate in the Inland Hunting Properties shoot-fests, and from what I've heard, the joints are almost devoid of anything alive except stock animals.
Something to be used there actually. But politicians would never listen. They'd use all the bad experiences as the norm, and use it against the decent folk.

The hunting bodies are waking up and undertaking evidence-based studies like the ADA did some years back in Vic.
The recent one showed what we all knew: something like about 8 deer in every, whatever square km? area in areas with no rec hunting.
About 2 deer in areas where hunting is permitted in Vic.

In NSW, it seems that all the deer problem areas, where deer are invading towns, are all areas with no public land hunting.
Limited private land hunters won't provide enough control ror the population.
The hunting state forests are far better controlled than other areas.

The fact is, we kill more deer than the govt departments combined could ever dream of doing.

Also, after chopper culling my regular forest about 3 times a year, they never miss the pre-rut bombing.
I have only ever found 1 carcass.
Far better hunters than I, have also smelt nothing.
