Me again with more results - for those looking to get estimates and itch that scratch, we know every gun is different bla bla but just for those interested with aussie powders

I have a book with an article by Layne Simpson. He states the Sierra 110gn JHP turns the 06 into a Varmint rifle....Extremely accurate too...

Fast, alright, just seems odd to go so light with an 06 that is usually used to hit bigger critters harder.
I don't even go that light with my 6.5s, more 6mm territory.

How are you blokes finding the 30-06 hand-loading accuracy?
Is it 1/2 MOA capable, or 3/4 more like it?

Accuracy is dependent on load + rifle. I have had 1/2 MOA with a 130 TTSX load towards top with AR2208 at about slightly over 3200fps.

Well with light - the thing is bullet construction - going a mono - you dont need that much weight behind it because you do not loose weight. So wiht a cup core 110 you would loose most of its weight and then get inadequate penetration. A 110 TTSX believe it or not, you get pass throughs. So it comes down to BC - under 300m - the most ideal combo for 3006 is actually a 130 TTSX doing 3250fps - 0.35BC - nothing performs as good in under 300m and the 130 in mono has the penetration of a 165 cup core.

even with 80% retention on a cup core - a 165 quickly becomes a 130grain after the first 2 inches of impact.

Yeah, even with cup and cores, light for cal, and fast can be the ticket, it seems.

Mono pills are a new ball game, and I have not even played.
I would have to start over with loads, and exy to do all the load development.

Projectiles are not projectiles, it seems. They can all be different.
I have seen the difference that the controlled expansion from a Woodleigh pill has over conventional cup and cores.
Several different brands used to stay in the animal, but the Woodleighs exit with about a thumb-sized hole.
Also had less deer running dead, so that expending all the energy in the animal is not what I am seeing.
They are loaded warmer to get them shooting better, so not everything is a controlled experiment.

I don't get enough animals willing to participate, but I used a Speer Hotcor at the higher charge, and it was like using a bigger rifle on a yearling meaty at around 100yds. The projectiles are a very similar shape, and maybe I just have them working better at higher velocity.
