ok peoples i want to rebarrel my 243 to a real medium to long range cal (500 to 1000)

with similar trajectory to my 7mm so that rules out the 308 and the 260 rely appeals to me ..

now i'm after some recommendations for the chamber set up throat length and so on

i will be using 140 VLDH and amax when i can find some (will use sst for now) .

barrel will be a lilja 26" 1:8 rem Sendero profile and no unfortunately it is not a

custom action just a howa short .

I rebarreled my old Brno from 243 to 260, used all my old cases too. I went for a slower twist as I only planned to use 120g bullets, so I can't comment on faster twist and target bullets. It's a real flat shooter and is perfect for pigs, dogs, small deer, I think it would take Sambhar with Barnes bullets no worries, it has good penetration sometimes I'll get 90% penetration on pigs with 120gr Speer hotcores . I have 4-12 power scope on it and a bipod usually. I also use it for metallic silhouette and it's adequate, 7-08 would be just about perfect for that match. I wanted a hunting rifle between 223 and 30-06 and thought 7-08 was too close to 30-06

I can't help with the info you're after but there is a great comparo between the three newest 6.5's here. It's great reading and the .260 dies well. The 6.5x47 won for me with its small primer pocket (I'm using it for a 7mm wildcat)
