Ejecting brass and causing a fire?

Morning all,

Watching some of the clean up on these NSW fires lately got me thinking about shooting in dry bush.

Brass is hot to touch obviously when freshly fire, not sure how hot they get across the board though.

Any hot enough to start a fire if you ejected it quickly enough?

Anyone dropped one into the dry grass and started a little fire you had to put out?

I don't think you could start a fire with a spent brass if you were trying?

There's no way your brass would be anywhere near the required ignition temperature of dry leaves, grass etc..

I can recall hammering out 30 shot clips from a SKK one after the other in dry grass and never starting any fires ( ah the good old days before John Howard ) Those shells came out as hot as can be. They would blister soft skin easy. Your more likley to start one with muzle flash... but im yet to hear of that hapening,

Never heard of it with a modern, smokeless load, but for those who don't dabble in Black Powder, it is most definately a problem.
Black powder round ball loads have a material (usually cotton) lubed patch that goes around the ball, and obviously comes out smoldering if not actually burning.
It's not unusual to see a smoldering patch on the firing line at the Club. Also, Black powder cartridge loads generally have a wad in the load somewhere, as do Black powder Shotgun loads.
So I would assume at some stage a fire would have been lit.
