A puffer bottle with Talcum Powder is handy also to work out wind direction, hold her up, a quick squeeze and watch which way she goes, then you know what direction the winds blowin. or you can do what I do and tie a piece of ribbon on the aerial of the ute  another one is tie a bit of ribbon on the barrel (haven't done that one) or just stick a wet finger up and see which way the winds flowing that way, the powder is probably the best as it doesn't take much to move it.

For wind direction I use the puffer with corn flour. But red cotton taped on the end of the barrel is sensitive and obvious too.

I'm about to try a decoy made from a battery operated weasel ball with the ball painted flat black.

I plan to peg it to the ground with about 1 1/2 feet of line so it doesn't go awol, and let it tumble around.

I'll keep it in with the chickens when im not using it so it smells like them.

I made one years ago using a Weasel Ball, I broke it open and tied the fury thing to the thing in side that makes em roll all over the place, mounted the whole thing on metal stake, worked ok.

These days I use a Predator Enticer which works well.

Strangely enough I have seen a few wild dogs / dingos turn up after firing a few shots . Only thing I could think off was they have become conditioned to expect a free feed after hearing some shots .

Regarding cheap fox decoys. I read some where that just tying something like some fur or chook feathers onto a low hanging branch on a bush or tree works. You can make it move with a piece of string. Sounds feasable to me. Has anyone tried it or similar?

Just get a bit of thin steel rod, tie a bit of fishing line too it and a couple of feathers on the end of that, let the wind move it around and they are happy to focus on that.

To be honest with you I rarely bother with the decoys - I just wait for em to show and I knock em over soon after.

It's weird but I reckon it could be they expect a free feed , when you think about it , a shot heard in the distance is not that scary , could be like a dinner bell to them.

If there is a carcase laying on the ground it could also be smell but one time I fired some shots at a drum to check sighting and some minuets later my mate noticed a wild dog pop out of the scrub and start looking around in our direction.

So there was no dead carcase smells as we had only just arrived and had not shot anything yet , except that old drum . Beats me .

I've got a shotgun shell one too, doesn't seem to work well (I might need to change the length of it to get a better sound out of it to be honest) so far the Tenterfields I have get the most action along with the Scotch predator Call and the Fox Pro.

I'm Gunna knock up a whole bunch of 12Ga, 20Ga and maybe an 8Ga (only have 2 8Ga shells) of all different lengths, different hole sizes etc and see which works best.

PM me your address and I'll mail you some 410Ga cases just to complete the collection :)

Is there anything going on in the middle or do you just join the two ends and that's it?

Nothing going on in the middle, it's about playing with the length of em as far as I can tell. Mine seem to work better on the inhale than the exhale if you know what I mean. I've got to find mine again and fiddle with the length and see if that makes a better sound but to be honest I find the Tenterfields better anyway hence why I haven't bothered with the Bombala Shotgun shell one.

Yeah Mate,, I got a piece of exhaust tube just long enough to protect the rubber of the Scotch Predator (from over exuberant fox teeth) and tied the predator call inside with cable ties around the wooden end, and also one around the end of the rubber (like a collar).
I made a lever on the end of the exhaust tube that connected to the collar via another cable tie.
I tied a few turkey feathers on to the lever, and operated it from any distance I wanted by using braided (so it doesnt stretch) fishing line on a small spinning reel.
So when you pull the line from your hide,,, it operates the scotch predator for sound,,, and the feathers for visual,,, all in the one motion.
Meanwhile, you can be quite some distance away and taking aim.

A small spike welded on the opposite end of the tube will anchour it in place.
I have also had a lot of success with leaving a rabbit gut laying next to it.

I was out last night (where I'm staying at the moment) with the NiteSite, and simply left a gut on top of a stump, and got 2 foxes coming to the same stump only 30 mins apart.
One in particular came in toward the stump, with the wind/breeze blowing from him to the stump, which is a testimonial to their senses.

Dunno if they are still available but I use the old Andrea Georgescu fox whistle, very much like the Tenterfield but made from thicker metal and its gold plated, gives a nice loud raspy sound.
