I quite often drive the lakes highway and if you know what to look for the deer are often at the edge of the scrub, stop and they disappear, same goes for our two short hunting seasons.

Short hunting season? It's 12 months of the year for deer in Vic….except for the little Hoggies in Gippsland.

I was driving through north vic months ago on the way to a hunting weekend and on a private property next to the road was a big Red just standing there with his broadside to the road.

About 150m or something from us, couldn't possibly have missed him.

Bastard new he was safe cause was dawdling around without a care in the world

Get to the forest, come across another and he can't get away from us fast enough :(

The only deer we officially have are fallow,

We only get a couple of short seasons each year, All of March with no antlerless for the first two weeks, then half of May and most of June for does(my preferred time).

Cull tags turn up regularly and are property specific and distributed by the landowner.

Our deer are fairly easily shot.

It's definitely here with the weather turning around in Melbourne.

Going out a month ago I'd be freezing to death but the last few weeks have been good.

The last few weekends have been prime for it :D

Hoping to get out camping for the first time in months next weekend now.

You're not the only one thinking that.

I definitely want to end up in Canada.

Still time years away realistically but hopefully not too long.
