Windamere RSC - January2015

Post by Hilux2003 » 24 Nov 2014, 9:22 pm

Next round in the calander for a Friday (noon) to Sunday (arvo) weekender. Should have access to range 1 (as base camp sort of) 400m metalic, range 2, 300m soft target (on the Sunday, if needed) & the "SillyWet" range - 500m metalic template.

I'm hoping to have the 3/5th size Fly targets by then & do have the full size 500m fly targets in the shed.
There will be a "local competition" - not sure at which distance or range at this time - on a BLOWFLY target.

This is the heads up & time to consider your attendance.

Without a know "attendance intent list" it is a waste of time setting up anything, so let me know if you are attending (I was going to type 'comming' but thought at 4 of the previous attendees would have a go at the wording!)

Post here or PM or email (I think mine is still working).

Har, har, har,..................

3rd Weekend in January 2015.

Hey Mate,

It varies every time we host one of these events. The last one i attended(august i think) had over 50 people there, which is a fairly decent turnout.

On an average weekend we would get around 15-20 maybe 30 if people bring friends.

They are a great, fun weekend, great to network and meet new people in the sport and you get to play with some pretty sweet toys :D

Anyone sitting on the fence should really give it a try. It's not too far away from Sydney and the range complex is better than anything we can get here anyways. I would call myself a "city convert" :P

Do you have a calander ?

Do you look at that calander?

s**t, really bad sense of humor here!

- the 3rd weekend in January 2015, is indeed the 16th (being Friday) to the 18th (it's a Sunday). Set up your camp/tent/caravan/etc. after lunch & meetup on Range 1 for the regular bulls**t session, eg. what you've been up to since the last shoot, etc.

We will be shootin' 300m Fly & hope to be shootin' 500m Fly - if we can get sighted in........... depends on wot you bring & if it will make 500m!

I looked up the "drop" for my 223R & = 10.5 MOA from the 100m zero (69g pill & 3000fps). Not sure if the scope is adjustible that far - yet.

Anyway, if we don't try, we wont't know, so January is going to be a 500m Fly. (even if I have to throw a half brick at it!)

It varies, last one -1 was about 45+, lost count, most recent was SIX but we all learnt something & not just "hitting the steel".

At the first "round" - at the 'after shoot discussions' (all guns & ammo locked away), we got on to rail guns & electromagnetic cannons. Problem being no one could work out hoe to make it feasable at the range. A few beers does change your perception of the world of physics & why not / if not = yes.

Oh s**t, those things laying around the floor here.... I'd better bring them up and clear some floor space.

I have a "cat trap" (it also manages to catch currowongs & anything else stupid enough or hungry enough to enter).
I shoot the cats & let the rest go, one currawong was really pissed off but have not managed to catch any more in the last six months, hopefully the "squark/word" has got around the currawong traps/etc & they now avoid it.

Will have to try another spot for the 'trap', as I think the leftover blood from earlier "expired cats" may have affected the scent in the area of the current location. I do use the 'anchovie oil' left in the jar, sprinkled around the entrance to the trap for scent camoflage.
(I do pizza's on Friday nights & like anchovies on mine).

Good luck with the Cats. Some really deserve the title of "hard to kill". Mainly I find some 'hard to find' but I know they are out there.
If you see one on the move & it notices you, it may just 'freeze' - then shoot the bugger ( you have about 5 secondsto aim & "trigger").
From my experience in the field. Some times they just keep running & a 12G works well, if with in 40m.

Fly Shoot in January. Get your accuary loads sorted out. 300m on the 3/5th sized target & hope fully the full 500m on the full sized "500M Fly" target.

I've worked out at about 3000f/s with a 69gn Lapua/Serria in .223 will need 10.5 MOA up adjustmet for 500m, from a zero at 100m.

Gunna give it a good "nudge" matey. Har, har, har.......................

thx for the advice. its first time hunting for me, so should be loads of fun. main targets will be bunnies, cats and hopefully a fox or two.

turns out i am taking a group of people canyoning on the same weekend as the Mudgee shoot, so looks like i'm out for the shoot.

very disappointing

I'm iterested in attending if you can send me the details and are there any calibre limits :) 338 Lap & 375 Cheytac would be great and if allowed 416 Barret & 50 BMG would be even better :). Happy to shoot .308 if thems the rules.

I'm sure Hilux will confirm but as far as I know the complex has an 8mm limit for nitro though they shoot larger in black powder.

It's a shame if that is the case because the range facilities could certainly support larger cartridges but most range templates are designed around an 8mm limit.

I can certainly see a market for a 1.5km range that allows the use of up .50 cal but I cannot see it happening in nsw and making if pay for itself would be the next issue.

Calibre limits:
While we do have "traditional big game rifle" on the range licence - it really means heavy solids from the 1800 - 1900's. Not derivitives of more recent brass ( jefferys & bmg).
We are limited to 8mm Nitro (military style loadings). The danger/drop zone on any of the ranges is only 2950m, balistically possible to exceed with a .308 aimed the wrong inclination but that is what we must comply with now.

As long as we only use what we are "allowed", we cannot get into trouble, unless we have a 'discharge' at the wrong angle & that would mean - someone did it intentionaly. If that happens & I identify them - their life span (on the range) will be measured in milliseconds, no second chance.

We have had 'pressure inquiries' about shooting .338Lapuas, etc. sorry - not allowed. The nearest legal range I am aware of would be Majura in the ACT, to 1000y/m, we simply do not have the danger zone in the 10,000acres due to terrain restrictions.

Sorry - we will miss you, only because we don't aim right!

Enjoy the rocks, water, damaged knuckles, toes, knees, elbows - in the bluddy canyon!

Hope you try your .308 on the bunnies = red mist, mostly not much to recover for the pot (or should I say cup) for cooking.

Pre Xmas up date, with 4 & a bit weeks to go.

For the Fly target shoot on the Saturday/Sunday - refer to the 500m Fly site for the rules.
http://www.500mflyshooter.com.au/
On there you will find the "full rule book" which those of us who are keen to compete will use, along with the 'factory class' rules'.
BUT
Any one attending does NOT need to match the rule book, just turn up & have a go.

There will be some pistol & sillygun (sorry shotgun) events to try.

Hopefully rimfire metalic silhouette, if we have enough RO's.

Hi All,

Can everyone please RVSP their attendance to myself by 10/01/15, this will allow us to sort out catering for the event.
At minimum we will provide lunch but it looks like there could be 20+ attendees for this round - which makes it economical to provide dinner too.

If you have facebook feel free to PM me and I can add you to the event page if you like - this will keep you updated on current and future events (usually 3 or so a year).

If you have any friends that want to try shooting feel free to bring them along (just ensure that there is 1:1 ratio of licenced shooters to unlicenced so that we can provide adequate supervision).

Range fees for the whole weekend (including food - if we go ahead) are generally $60 (shoot the whole weekend + lunches + saturday dinenr + sunday breakfast)
Any profits go towards range improvements to benefit visitors/members (new targets, steel, shed upgrades etc) as we are a not for profit organisation.
