Stripping down a Rossi

For all those looking for a half naked moto gt racer get out!

So I decided to pull apart my Rossi m92 this arvo with the aid of a YouTube video. With distractions and having to do half of it twice a 20 minute video turned into a four hour saga . But it was good to get an idea of how it all goes together.

What I'm asking is what exactly do you look for with parts that might have slipped quality control? I've found a couple of small burrs that I polished off with super fine sand paper and a little bit of swarf between the timber stock and barrel.

And also I've sanded back the stock not because it didn't look any good just that I want it to be darker.

So I've taken the stock back with 240 and 500 grit sandpaper to remove the old dodgy stain

I put 5 coats of tru oil on which sealed the timber nicely but didn't get as dark as I had hoped

So I lightly sanded the stock and added two coats of redgum stain and another 5 coats of tru oil over the top and I'm pretty impressed with the outcome

Here's the before and after.

The Brazillian timber is no American walnut and doesn't have a distinctive grain pattern due to the tropical climate not having a large temperature difference so the timber doesn't shrink or swell much.

Looks good. I took my Browning B92 apart, same as you, took most of the afternoon and night to get back together. YouTube was essential, I recon I could do it in an hour now. Correct size punches help. I've also taken my marlin apart as well. Much easier to get back together.

Yeah would have been buggered without the YouTube videos. Locking in the action spring and using a spent case to hold the ejector in helped heaps.

Did you have any parts left over?

I wouldnt be too concerned with burrs and finish where you cant see, except for friction surfaces....

I like the unstained oiled version.... I might pull the wifes 92 out and do the same.... good stuff

One of the burrs was on a surface on the lever that comes in contact with the bolt which I'm not 100% sure but caused the bolt to close but not fully snap shut with certain ammo so fingers crossed it will fix that.

Yeah I thought it looked good without the stain but I had my heart set on the dark look.

Don't let it put you off nothing too hard just diddly and will be a lot quicker next time

Takes you 4 hours the first time you try it and 40 minutes the next time

The bluing is pretty good for now as I've only had it two years but there are some parts in the action that I would like to polish to smooth the action out more so I'll need to re blue them afterwards.
