This thread is un-be-freakin-leaveable...

Potato scallops scollops trollops cakes smakes berr BEER dont get me started nsw pint schooner pot 10 20 jug Gallipoli...GALLIPOLI?

WTF???

A deep fried compressed thing of potato is a CAKE, a potato CAKE...

definition in the correct context;
an item of savoury food formed into a flat round shape, and typically baked or fried.

They are damned tasty, fried in animal fat, not that bloody vegetarian oil... :roll: Challenge is to find a fish and chipper thats GREEK... I have traveled the suburbs of Melbourne and theyre all 'recent arrivals'....dont know about you guys, but I'd prefer my cash sale money going to Athens than Beijing...

As far as beer measures.... when I become president..(we'll be a republic by then) I'll take 2 actions in relation to beer;
1) I'm outlawing all beer measures other than the UK pint of 568ml, no us 'short pint' of 473ml...500ml will be excepted as we are technically metricised.. a pot doesnt even touch the side....

2) Removing the abhorrent and shameful excise duty from beer etc which is charged to us stupid people at the rate of $46.76 per litre of alcohol which equates to exactly $21.04 in excise excluding gst per slab of beer!!! or $22.18 per bottle of whisky.....! would ya believe it.

You've got my vote. :drinks: :friends:
That tax is lovingly know as the WET tax Wine Equalization tax.
We could'nt possibly drop the tax on Beer and Smokes down to 10% when the GST was introduced (to remove hidden taxes) so we had to put excises on everything (OH NO an excise is NOT a tax no no no) :sarcasm:

The WET is different to the beer and spirits excise,
WET is 29% wholesale value while on spirits and beer it's effectively 100% tax ex gst at retail....... it's like we're leaning over the table taking our own pants down and even applying the vas ourselves...

They trundled on for a couple of years in the early 2000s, I forget the exact range.

Fell over of course. Anything comical like "more beer" will never get anywhere.

Thanks for the details.
So it's even MORE hidden tax.
And we were told the GST was getting rid of all the hidden taxes and a whole bunch of state taxes as well (very little went)
And they keep telling us we are one of the lowest taxed western countries :sarcasm: BS!

We're all about hash browns here.

A hash brown is a different kettle of fish, we have them here too.

a potato scallop is a scallop of potato (a slice 1/8"-1/4" thick) dipped into batter and deep fried.

The term scallop refers to the technique not any relationship to sea scallops.

There's an award winning fish and chip shop in the inner west of sydney that does some fantastic sweet potato scallops and pumpkin scallops too.

Italian imagrants in Vic tended to open Pizza places.
May be in NSW they got into Fish & Chip shops?

I dont know who told you that.... I cant see 500,000 pizzerias, can you?

Fact is that as soon as they stepped off the boat (that they legitimately paid tickets for I might add) They worked their rears off to earn their living and feed and educate the family...the old fashion sweat and toil way....digging ditches, working for the water or electricity authorities, many built Holdens and Fords.

Some of them were even imprisoned during the war, simply for being Italian, as a big 'thank you' for your contribution....dont say 'concentration camp'..... thats not an Aussie word, say 'prison farm' more PC.

Pizza shops are more likely run by Lebanese.. (nothing wrong with that)...........nothing like a Margherita pizza and a Peroni or Heineken (imported definitely not local brewed) :drinks:

Yep my brother in-law's an Iti. came here as a kid with his family with nothing, now runs a very sucessfull butchers shop.
Wasn't the Snowy river hydro system built with mainly Itilian labour?

Now you mention it, there's a lot less pizzerias around these days (in my area anyway) and staffed by asians???
Nothing like a good home made Italian pizza.
PS My bro-in-law calls those "Yummy round flat things" Potato Cakes :lol:

But he doesn't call himself that, he's an Auzzie, and I wouldn't call him what he calls his Itilian mates :oops:
