Your best shot (skill, fluke, or luck included)

Post by halberg » 07 Jan 2015, 1:10 pm

A topic for some fun and maybe some bragging rights

Your best shot.

Can be serious skill shooting, a good hunting shot or a complete fluke that turned out impressive.

Lets hear 'em :)

Shot a "C" size battery off the top of a stump at 350m with my .223 with my first shot out at Gatton Qld yesterday in the rain  , assured it was skill to the 2 other blokes with me 8-) but I think we all knew the truth

Not super impressive to some, but it impressed me from the first cold bore shot of the day from the little .223

I think bragging rights are when one hits what they aim at. The distance is known to the shooter as being difficult for a particular firearm. Luck, fluke play no part in a "good" shot, it is skill as it is able to be repeated. Any shooter who cannot repeat a good "shot" should not accept any accolades from another. Flukes or luck must not be part of shooting, hence in the Olympics, Commonwealth Games or other event, a top gun prise goes to the shooter over many shots fired that day or event. Shoot well.

I took a radio antenna off an old car on a property, from about 15 metres, using the mighty Gamo Shadow Sport .177 air rifle.
Sadly, that's my best.

Had the old air rifle over my shoulder as a kid and still had one in the chamber when walking home so I just let the shot off and sure enough managed to drop a magpie that was flying past

Great post, bad guys "rabbits" ? 200mtrs for a .22 with accuracy is different, not saying i't can't be done, (it can't be done) so great shooting. :drinks:

Got a 500m bullseye when a fellow shooter was nice enough to give me a shot on his target rifle. First shot.

Complete fluke that I'll never be able to replicate on the first or any other shot, but I can honestly say I've hit a bullseye at 500m so that ain't bad 8-)

My Mrs took a fox at 300m while it was on the run.

I missed it twice before she pulled the trigger

I shoot some pretty good groups with my 7mm hunting rifle and BR .22, but nothing to really brag about.

A bit boring but a 1" group at 200m with my Remington sporter.

3 shot group and definitely a bit of luck in getting that at 200m.

It's admittedly a better than I or the rifle am usually up for.

Just hit 2 young pigs on the run with one shot (243 80gr SPBT) free standing in the rain from 100m.
First one through the gut and then hit his mate in the head, more ass than class. :)

My mate took me out to his local shooting range to have a crack at his O mark .308. I took the first shot at 1000 yard with fairly high winds and a bad mirage and managed to get 16 inches off the bull. Needless to say he was spewing thinking the rookie wouldn't get close.

Shot this small steel gong at 500m once. Had 3 sighting shots at a paper target then took on the plate, aimed off and scored a center hit.

Shooting a young steer for the freezer, damn thing tossed its head as I fired, so hit in wrong spot and it took off across the paddock. Shooting from the shoulder I then hit it perfectly on the line between eye and ear, dead before it hit the ground. 50m.

Another nice shot was lining up two bunnies.

I watched shooter years ago, great plot. Movies are just that, all America looking for someone and the hero prevails, great for the movies. Real life other than some great shots made by the best snipers in the world, the rest is just a movie. I have also made some great shots over the years, as have many other shooters better than I. All repeatable, all good shots.

A .22lr with a better barrel than usual production .22. Some hi velocity ammo, 1400fs, 200 yards by worlds top shooter, perhaps, not to many here in sunny Australia, most are now in Iran and Syria. As I said, I can't hit a can coke at 200 mtrs, 75mtrs ok, if someone else can do it and repeat the shot, gets a gong from me. Best pistol shot from me, using my .38super Trubor, 200 yards, metallic silhouette range, target of Pig, not a problem, repeatable, off hand.

Huh?

Who do you think are the top shots all in Iran and Syria? Please don't say Australian Army Snipers or SAS... Contracted civilians?

Was out spotlighting one night when a rabbit ran across the front of the ute through the headlights. No one else had seen it so I took a shot with a mates 22 magnum while it was running. Hit it in the neck and clean cut its head off with no damage to the body or the head itself. Couldnt beleive my eyes

Being very polite and not wishing to offend, PLEASE read the post where I make ANY reference to the ADF or boys scouts or girl guides being in Iran or Iraq or Syria. Don't make assumptions about what my post may or may not make reference to, stay with the written word. As to who may be where at any time of the year doing all manner of good deeds may surprise even you.
PS, this last sentence makes no reference to, and does not imply in any way that any of our citizens may be in any foreign country or the back of Bourke at any time.

well ill be polite :D . and while you didnt make any reference to the adf and you were talking about .22. you did say not to many in Aus and then threw in the fishing line with the bait of,,most are NOW in iran ect  now you either mean that the worlds best .22 shooters are now in iran or that the best Australian .22 shooters are there :unknown: or "and how you would know this ?" the worlds best snipers,USA,Canada,British are in iran, syria.
and i loved the end bit, "may surprise even you" giving the impression that you "know"
