300wsm loading

I have been doing some research but keen to see what people are loading for the 300wsm.

I have been looking into 208gr A-maxs, with AR2209 loads.

Also finding it hard to find brass for the cartridge.

Appreciate your experience

Here in the US getting brass for it was also problematic at times.

Mine came together with the idea of a shooting heavier pills than the .308 but still be relatively flat shooting.

63.8gr of H4350 behind a 180gr Hornady Interlock BTSP was my load of choice.

To be honest I got a bit carried away when getting it. In the end it was harder to feed and more gun than I needed so I moved it along.

Heavier projectiles and flatter shooting for those longer shots.

Yes, but honestly my experience with it at 1,000+ yards was limited.

As I say, I was shooting Interlocks. This was a long-range hunter project and on my usual spots I had a few regular blinds and game trails that didn't see me shooting past about 800 yards.

I was usually shooting between 500 and 800 yards and got pretty adept at working over those distances and it delivered.

Further than that, I did get out to 1,200 yards with it shooting Bergers 185 gr Match Hybrid Target bullets. I didn't get to fully test it at that range as it was not long before I sold it. But with initial load work ups and about 150 it was very promising.

I went straight from my 800 yard hunting to 1,200 as that was the furthest target available on the range I shot at. Results were promising like I said, especially given that I only took it about half way in terms of practice and load workup.

From what I did do, it would have been very capable at 1,000 yards, I'm sure.

Having enough force to ethically put down animals at the 1000yard mark.

I find the HPBT punch straight through and if not positioned right doesn't put the animals down

Maybe you've looked at a few of these but if not...

Check out the Accubond Long Range projectiles, Barnes LRX and Berger VLD Hunting bullets.

The Accubonds are quite expensive, but a great bullet.

Barnes are cheaper, you'll know the reputation of the Barnes TSX though. Again, great hunting bullet. The Barnes LRX is the first I'd try if it was my money.

I was using 168gr match grade nosler. Placing them mainly in the shoulder.

I carry out Roo culling under DMP for a local farmer .308 amax 168gr run really well, it took me a while to tune the rifle.

You cull roo at 1000 yards and they punch straight through?

Hmm. Would need to know velocities etc. but perhaps at the 1,000 they're going too slow to expand properly? Causing the pencil through?

What powder type and charge weight were you using with the Nosler Match?

Should be easy enough to put through a ballistic calculator at see what comes up at 1,000 for energy etc.

They do a few shooting tools including a trajectory calculator which covers drop, velocity and energy.
