Like it says.. How much ammunition can you acquire legally? Are there limitations?

I'm not aware of any limitations on loaded ammo. You can only have a maximum of 10kg smokeless powder though

In VIC you can ordinarily store up to 40,000 rounds (AKA 'safety cartridges')

This come under the Dangerous Goods (explosives) Laws...

In NSW it may be similar.... oh hang on its New South so the limit is probably 2 boxes of round (2x20)

Apparently in NSW you can store 12kg of propellant under your firearm lic, cant see a limit to the ammo, but given that purchases are recorded and therefore tracked... if you buy or try to buy a pallet load then you'll no doubt receive a knock at the door with one of those big 'master keys' in no time

In SA it's 12 months supply, I think that's a 12 month stand off against zombie plague ?

I've been informed by a dealer that there's no limit on the amount of loaded rounds I can have. 12kg of powder is a new one as I was told it was 10kg, the legislation is clear so cool by me. Generally I keep 8-10kg at home and have been keeping another 10kg at my shooting mates house so I could comply with the rules. Might pick up another 4kg of AR2218 over the weekend, hate to think I'm under utilising the legal limit.

How many rounds to keep me happy?...the answer is always "Just 1 box more" and always will be

I am sure the powder storage law says 10 kg per calibre or per cartridge . I have not seen it for some years so I am not sure I remember right . Does anyone have a print out of the rule ?

48 Ammunition

(1) A person who is a licensed firearms dealer under the Firearms Act 1996 is not required to be authorised by a licence in order to possess, store, transport, sell or supply:
(a) ammunition, or
(b) percussion caps, or
(c) not more than 12 kg of propellant powder.
(2) A person who holds a licence or a permit under the Firearms Act 1996 (other than a firearms collector licence) that authorises the person to possess or use a firearm is not required to be authorised by a licence in order to possess, use, store or transport:
(a) ammunition, or
(b) percussion caps, or

haaaaa good question....

12000grams = 26.4555lb = 185,188.5 grains

divide 185,188.5 by 45grains (average 308win load)

=4,115 loads !

Now that is almost enough, it means you'll just need to buy 3 jugs, loads your 4000 rounds.... buy another 3 jugs

Probably wise to put as much effort into storing your ammo as you do your firearms given the quantity of powder involved.
