Post by bear foot bowhunter » 14 Mar 2015, 4:53 pm

Hi guys first of I was reading another forum post from 2013 and it was a state by state folding and telescopic stock laws and according to it they where leagal as long as the overall length is grater than 75cm , is this true ,noticed a seller with nemesis arms vanquish that had a folding /telescopic , I always was under the understanding they where illegal ?

And the second is are 12ga caliber adapters legal in Australia like the chiappa x-calibre set ??

Interdiction Logistics in QLD I believe are bringing in the Nemesis Arms product line. Aaron is also the DTA importer so if anyone can get them then it'll be him. I did have a talk to him about the folding / telescoping stock and I think from memory that there will be a special non movable model to meet the Australian regulations. Pity if they force that upon the product as they look awesome and I hear shoot just as well. Can't help on the Chiappa question though if it comes with adapters to use either shot shell or centre fire ammo then it should hopefully just be a matter of getting the correct PTA for a combo rifle.
How's my posting?

Hmmm.

Did a few searches through the QLD Weapons Act.... https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/LEGI ... onsR96.pdf

Not a mention of telescopic, collapsible, collapse or folding in there :unknown:

Could be under a different piece of legislation.

In ACT we have the "Firearms Act", such stocks are prohibited under a different "Prohibited Weapons Act" though.

Still the case as far as I can see.

Prohibited Weapons Act 1996
A1996-75
Republication No 14
Effective: 3 March 2015

Schedule 2 Prohibited articles

[blah blah blah]

11. a folding, detachable, telescopic or collapsible stock.

You'll want to check for other acts covering it beyond Firearms. (Nothing in there about 75cm limit for here FYI)

Yar, laws to govern laws.

I'll get onto some gun shop that sells them and see how they get on with them.

88mm.... This is from Customs on importing firearms FYI

i. adjustable stock means a stock that may be adjusted by more than 120mm

Practical effect - stocks that were previously controlled as telescopic or collapsible stocks under the Regulations may no longer be controlled under Regulations, where the length of adjustment is less than 120mm.

Hang on........ For your 700, that's $10,000 for a replacement rifle or $10,000 for a stock for the R700? :wtf:

Good question.

I did a little searching through a few of the state firearm acts and couldn't find anything.

It occurs to be no permit etc. is required for firing smaller calibre rounds in sabot, the firearm just has to be registered 'as is'.

I wonder if an adapter is in the same boat. Can anyone confirm?
