Guard leaves pistol in shopping centre toilet

So.... out of us LAFO as non 'trained professionals' who's done this before?

Gunna guess zero!

A security guard who left his gun unattended in a shopping centre in Melbourne's north west was forced to make an embarrassing call to Victoria Police to retrieve it when he realised it was missing.

The incident occurred about 3pm on Wednesday at a shopping centre in Airport West.

Victoria Police spokesman Paul Turner said the gun was found a short time later in a toilet cubicle and police were investigating the incident.

Victoria Police confirmed the incident after a man tipped off Fairfax radio station 3AW this morning.

The caller said the security guard had been escorting a large amount of money to refill ATMs when he needed a bathroom break.

"The guard has left the van, headed to a public toilet, not wanting to leave his 38 Smith and Wesson hanging on the door placed the gun on the floor behind the toilet," the caller said.

"He completed his business and it took a further four hours for him to realise that he left his gun behind. He had to make a sheepish call to Victoria Police." The Age.

I'd loose my head if it wasn't bolted on but I've never lost a gun.

Good on him I suppose for calling the Police immediately to report it.

Could have gone back himself and as it turns out would have found it, could have left the whole thing unreported and leave it there for the time required to drive back... However long that was.

What a phone call to have with the cops though

Seen that first hand.

When I was a kid we were hanging around a sports centre which included a trap shooting range.

Some guy put is shotty on the rack, and spent 20 minutes packing up before driving off without it.

Got to the end of the driveway before he realised and came ROARING back a minute later

It does seem like everyone except us LAFO gets a second change.

A guard does something stupid, even a criminal attacks police and they get warnings.

One round out of place or a lose bolt and they're on top of us :problem:
