Gun dog for sambar

Hey everyone I'm new here and just want to see if someone can help clear up an issue with using a dog to track sambar

I want to buy a German pointer and use it to track sambar I only have a stalking licence , do I need to do the hound hunting test and upgrade my licence to use a German pointer as it is classed as a gun dog not a scent hound I'm in Victoria by the way

You probably already know this, but just in case... Places where you can hunt with dogs are limited too, so that's something for you to check. Just because you can hunt somewhere doesn't automatically mean you can use dogs too.

Thanks lorgar I have read all that and its very conflicting information I rang the depi and the girl on the phone wasn't really sure and she just said yes you need to do the hound hunting test
The depi website states "The new laws continue to require people to pass the Sambar Deer Hunting with Hounds Test before being able to hunt with hounds. " but the German pointer is classed as a gundog not a hound on their website

There was a video on using scent, tracking dogs on Sambar the other day - I think it's a SSAA with the "wildlife man' in it using a Rigby rifle and a Vic. dude that trains the dogs and takes clients out hunting...
