Noise levels during the day from neighbours

Post by portph » 04 Apr 2015, 4:55 pm

Can anyone tell me what the deal is here?

Before midnight is there a DB level or length of time where break is required or something?

My neighbour has been going with the high pressure water hose on the roof for about 6 hours, the thing sounds like a diesel gennie is stuck to my wall

If there isnt a max db level should be set nation wide. It just takes 1 ignorant neigbour to screw a great neigbourhood.

The EPA are the ones to get information from, link below. Since they are Australia wide the rules should be the same for every state, check the table about half way down for your specific issue. If it's a one off thing I'd just ignore it in the name of being a good neighbour or go ask him nicely if he'd mind calling it a night. We all make too much noise on occasion (I know I do) so what goes around comes around. If I'm having a huge noisy party the first people I invite are the neighbours :)

Looks like no.

Noisy domestic equipment
The Protection of the Environment Operations (Noise Control) Regulation 2008 specifies the times when noise from domestic activities should not be heard in a neighbour's home. If a person fails to comply with a warning from the police or council for operating noisy equipment, such as power tools, sound systems, musical instruments, air conditioners, pool pumps or heat pump water heaters, during restricted times, an on-the-spot fine may be issued.

An on-the-spot fine of $200 ($400 for corporations) may be imposed on anyone who continues to make noise up to 28 days after being warned to stop by an authorised EPA officer, the police, or a local council officer.

The times when these noisy appliances should not be used if they can be heard inside certain rooms of a neighbour's residence are listed in Table 1, with advice on who to contact if you need help.

Noise source - from residential premises
Power tools and equipment (powered garden tools; e.g. lawn mowers and leaf blowers; electric or pneumatic tools, chainsaws, circular saws, gas or air compressors and swimming pool or spa pumps)

Time restrictions when noise should not be heard in a habitable* room in a neighbour's residence
Before 8 am and after 8 pm on Sundays and public holidays
Before 7 am and after 8 pm on any other day

Contact
Local council or police

Tools during those time ok as I read it, without any exception mentioned.

That's one of the reasons why I'm moving!!
Used to be pretty quiet around here but now non stop chainsaws, leaf blowers etc every weekend all weekend.
Now it seem we are under a "Scenic Flight" path and have never ending light planes buzzing around and now they have added helicopters.
Ahhh but it’s good for the region, tourist $ for local business etc.
After a fight with the council about a planning permit they refused I’ve had enough…. I’m off. Regional Vic here I come (back)
There's always room for at least one more gun in my safe.
There's always room for one more safe in my house.

This is why I bought the place I did. The house needs work but I have 82 acres and the nearest neighbour is 1100m away.
