the only way is to either scrap the permit to acquire system (which you guys didnt really support, except for the vast minority.... so what can I say)
or tell your representatives to fix the wording of the Act;
Weapons Act says; (apart from the title, theyre firearms not weapons....)
42 Authorised officer decides application(1) An authorised officer must decide an application for a permit to acquire a weapon
as soon as practicable after the end of any period that may be prescribed for this section under a regulation.
<<that there gives full and absolute discretion to the assessing officer, its up to the police to decide if its practicable to consider within 1 hr or 1 year.... when there was the months backlog, it was not 'practicable' so they created there own excuse..(2) In deciding the application, the authorised officer may
consider anything at the officer’s disposal.
<<this here would only fly when it involves guns and guys and girls who are forced to agree to have their personal secure info placed on a criminal database available to not only state, but national and international LE offices and officers... ANYTHING can be considered, anything might include whether you have say, a speeding fine!The best part is the part in the regs,
56 Waiting period for decision on application for permit to acquire(1) This section prescribes the period for section 42 of the Act.
(2) The period is 28 days after the day the applicant lodges the application for the permit to acquire the weapon.
(3) However, if—
(a) the applicant already holds a firearm under a licence; or
(b) an authorised officer is satisfied there are exceptional circumstances;
the period is the remainder of the day on which the applicant lodges the application for the permit.So the regs specify the waiting period as the rest of the day on which the pta is lodged, if you have a firearm.... unless its not convenient for the police (practicable).....
