yeah after much home work on this
i have decided not to go through with it .
my reasons are
if i put one on ' ill probably won’t be allowed to shoot at the range and for good reasons too .
it would make hunting with my mates s**t house so don’t think its worth all that trouble to be honest .

I wouldnt fit one. Just reduce a recoil problem and increase tne noise issue. But each situation and persons preferences are different. Horses for courses.

If u work hard there are goats. I have shot a few in that area. Just be careful some of those areas are closed to hunting nowadays.

Well I bit the bullet and bought a Tikka 223 in T3 and had a Leaupold scope mounted on it with warne rings. had to pay another $250-00 to get the stock shortened to make it fit better now when it comes back out for some practice at the range.

Good rifle and scope you've gone with

Needing to get the length of pull shortened might seem like a pain in the ass (and expense) but it's worth it.

You shoot a lot better when the rifle is a comfortable fit

Hi all!

Post by Stubbles McBeard » 06 Jun 2015, 6:16 pm

Gday everyone, my name's Aaron and I'm a newbie from SA. Actually, I'm such a newbie I don't even have a license yet. I finally decided a few weeks ago to apply, after putting it off for years. I'm a total beginner when it comes to firearms, I killed a handful of coke cans with my grandpa's air rifle and .22 when I was a kid, have had a go at shooting clays once before and shot handguns at Marksman's for a bucks show once. So basically I know which is the business end and that's about all.
Like all of my hobbies I tend to do a heap of research before laying down my hard earned, so I decided to join this forum to hopefully pick the brains of some more experienced owners. Hopefully I don't ask too many dumb questions of you guys.
When I eventually get my license I'll be looking to buy an air rifle and a .22 for myself to learn and practice as much as I can. As far as centrefires go, there is so much out there, I have no idea where to start!
Thanks in advance for any help, looking forward to learning heaps.

G'day Aaron,

Good place here for a beginner to learn.

What do you plan to get into. Hunting of some sort? Targets at a range or private property? Are you loaded or on a normal persons budget? Have any mates or family also into shooting of some sort?

All helpful things to consider and add for info to help get advice suitable to you.

Ask away.

Interested in doing a little bit of anything that I can, to see if I enjoy it. I'm close to the Monarto range, so if anyone shoots there I'd be interested in a bit of info about that. I've got a few workmates into shooting, they do a bit of social clay stuff and general hunting/spotlighting occasionally.
I've got a mortgage and two small kids, so I guess I qualify as a normal person, as far as funds go.
I managed to pick up a 10 gun safe on special last week, pretty stoked about that. My grandpa has been talking about passing his guns along to me sometime soon, so that could be a good starting point. He's got a nice old Stevens favorite .22 that I'd love to clean up and shoot, the thing is about 100 years old. He's also got his father's old side by side, and that would have to be at least 70 years old as well. There's also a single shot .22 and the old air rifle you can just about see the slug fall out the end of .
I'm more interested in older stuff, with a bit of history and a story to tell, rather than the newest and best of everything.

And, hi Aaron, great name. Never met an Aaron who wasn't a top bloke, all the good ones are called Aaron.
