What would you like added / changed on the forum?

G'day guys and girls,

We have a bit of credit left over with the web guys and since we go through it slowly normally we thought we'd open the floor for ideas on what you'd like to see added to the forum or change. Might as well apply it to something people want sooner rather than later.

No promises, but open to all ideas and if something sounds promising we'll have them do their thing.

What would be cool is to have a lot more customisation to profiles, leaving a description on your profile for one part and being able to private message a lot quicker, like a chat almost.

Oh and more emoticons. Can never have too many of them.

Also, could there be a guide on what rank comes from how many posts? I'm still unsure on the amount of posts and the ranks given accordingly.

Not sure I'm 100% following on the profile, you mean something like having an 'about' section if someone views your profile page?

How much of a description would you expect to leave, more that would be suitable for a signature?

I'd say ahead of time for this that the profiles pages aren't heavily used. Beyond that though, profiles were set up to deliberately be minimal for the obvious security reasons surrounding firearms. It was left at asking for someone's state as that lets you know where they stand in regards to laws and hunting regions but doesn't provide anything identifiable about them or their more specific location. I doubt we'd want to encourage people to provide much more than that.

I expect you're referring to how messages appear to stay in the outbox for a period of time? All that actually means is that the recipient hasn't read it yet, it stays in the outbox until they read it but it is sent to them straight away.

Is that what you mean?

Well, no. What I meant was more of an instant messaging service between users. I can understand that can become expensive in some cases but it would be great to be able to chat to other members a lot easier and quicker.

I mean the ability to search this forum only. Google is great for general searches but, the knowledge from the local experiences in this forum is or should be searchable without having to troll through page after page of posts.

You can do that one already.

1) When posting a topic or reply tick the "Notify me when a reply is posted" box.

For replying this is only show on the full editor, not the quick reply now.


2) There is a "Subscribe topic" link at the bottom of every page, no reply required.

Not very prominent but it's there.

As far as I know all that stuff is in the same boat as the 'users online'. It's a drain on the site for something that's just a bit of a curiosity, and site performance was more of a priority.

Has anyone else lost their show new posts button?
Did that somehow get misplaced in the upgrades? Currently I'm having to got back to my bookmark to "view new posts".

There is a bit of tinkering in progress today, I'll note it for the guys though.

On that topic though, the way the 'new posts' links works is it shows new posts since your last login. If you logout and 20 posts are made while you're gone then you log back in it will show the 20. If you log out again without reading the posts next time you log in it they will be gone. Also new posts made while you're logged in don't show. It's not great in the way it lets new content go by like that and works around how often you log in out which isn't often for most people.

On the other hand the 'unread posts' link just shows all you haven't read, and latest posts are at the top so it's not like you have to go past old things to find the new. It does the same as the above without relying on your login/out or the potential to miss things. Is there a reason you prefer the 'new posts' way to the 'unread posts' one? The 'unread posts' seems like the more reliable option?

Second icon on the bar if you're on your mobile. (I know there are no labels which is a bit annoying).

It make sense on a PC where you see the words for the link instead of just an icon, but isn't clear when that's all you have on the mobile.

There should also be a drop down menu in the top right when you're on the mobile too? Which has text links instead of the icons.

With all the rubbish about Addlers and other firearms review.
How about a section where people can post a letter UP and others me able to add or edit for their personal politician LIKE A SECTION ON PREFORM LETTERS thats what im thinking save each other a bit of time trying to reinvent the wheel so to speak .could even find a list of current crop of politician emails and addresses
just a thought
