Yep, a nutter comes to do you harm and you are legally defenceless.

Thanks to the Australian laws and the government so hell bent on public safety.

You fellas watch, if it sticks he'll get a few years and be out on parole in no time. Whilst if we defended our selves not even necessarily with firearms we'd be up sh*t creek without a paddle in no time.

Im not a fan of it, but you gotta wonder why we don't have the death penalty for cases like this.

Such acts, and the people that commit them, are the destroyers of society. What is worse is how there are people who care more for the victimizer that the victim.
I've been asked: "How many guns do you need to have?" My answer remains the same: "One more."

you know the public needs to get really angry about this. every time someone is a victim we need to efficiently point out a core problem in the equation and how the legal access to weapons for self defense could have saved lives or prevented the crime from starting to begin with.

We have a right to self defence in Australia, we don't have any rights to possess anything that could be used for self defence.
Senator David Leyonhjelm is a lawyer he explains it in this article
http://www.smh.com.au/comment/lindt-caf ... 29q4r.html

This family was attacked in their own home, the father and mother were stabbed to death then the offender stabbed and raped their 16 year old daughter, the hoplophobes will tell us it's for our own good we are not allowed any weapons for self defence.

This is a sad and cruel example of how this country allows one person to destroy an entire family if it's their desire.

Criminals bent on such activities can pretty much be confident that almost any family they wish to do this to will not have any means of stopping them - provided that they previously plan their attack. The only deterrent stopping criminals is fear of being caught and what the justice system might do to them. In cases where they don't fear this (as such as this) there is nothing between them and their goal.

I'm completely for some kind of castle doctrine.

The amount of incidents we'd need to get one implemented though feels like it would be so high you don't even want to think about it. :(

I feel very safe and sound under the self defense laws. I live in Massachusetts where it is mandatory to have gun license in order to buy, sell, modify, and carry the gun of any kind. Class A, B and FID are the license types in USA which I grew up following. Now if I migrate to Australia then I will have to know their gun laws and live upto it.

Do you mean you feel safe under the Massachusetts gun laws, or you'd feel safe if you migrated to Australia?

If you migrate to Australia forget knowing our gun laws - you are not even allowed to have a baseball bat for the purpose of defending yourself in your own home.

Legally, criminals of course are also not allowed to use them either. Our laws might actually work.... - in a fantasy universe that some pollies seem to think we live in where criminals respect & obey the laws.

Australian laws by default sway the balance in favour of the criminal. The only negative for the criminal is the risk of getting caught - after the incident.
