Recommend me a Chronograph!

Post by 5Tom » 11 Dec 2013, 7:39 pm

Hi everyone,
Been reloading for a little while now without a chronograph and having the ability to know the velocities of your handloads is very valuable, which is something I obviously have gone without. Guestimates just don't cut it..

Been looking around and I'm after a chronie with a remote display/control pad at the very least.

I've come across the CED M2 Chronie at Sinclair Int for US$199, which looks the goods.

Does anyone have any experience with this model or can reccomend a better unit?

Thanks!

Can't speak for that model.

I've used a RCBS AmmoMaster Chronograph which is also $199 retail and it works fine.

Have compared it to two other units at the range and velocity was consistent between them all.

It was accurate which is all that matters, don't really know what other feedback to give...

Yep, as long as it's a decent brand it should be accurate.

No reason not to grab it as it's a decent brand.

The M2 Chronie will be more than enough for anything you could ever shoot.

Specs are 50fps - 7000fps range and 500 shot memory.

That'll get the job done.

I'm hardly an expert, but I've used the M2 on a handful of occasions.

Belongs to a mate of mine who's bananas for knowing every last detail about his loads.

Consistent readings and no complaints from him.

Thanks for the feedback, I just saw online the Magnetospeed chronograph that straps on the end of your barrel. Works by magnetic induction as the bullet passes over the coils in the unit. A bit expensive and since it straps on to your barrel, it does shift POI as users claim, but they also claim it doesn't effect your groups. A few people have posted pictures of their groups with and without the chrony and it seems quite true!

Does that matter to you though?

You're only going to be using the Chrono to measure your velocity, never when shooting for results.

Just get your numbers from the Chrono then go back to shooting without it for your usual, optimum groups?

Meh, just get a standard one and save yourself the money IMO.

All you need is the number coming out of it, not tight groups.
