AgQuip 2015

Post by brett1868 » 13 Aug 2015, 10:46 am

I've been going to AgQuip for near on 40 years now and will be heading up there tomorrow morning. Finally getting my block marked out for the dozer and fixing some fences over the weekend and will head back down to Gunnedah on Tuesday to visit AgQuip. It's a massive field day type event for the country folk, a chance to catch up and look over the latest and greatest in farm technology and equipment. Almost any type of tool, machine or gadget is on display there from sewing machines up to turbine powered aircraft. Hand tools to massive earth movers, you can climb all over and through them and kids love it.

If you're in the neighbourhood of Gunnedah on Tuesday 18th Aug and would like to catch up for a steak sandwich drop me a PM.

Nope, for clearing 5500m of fence line to create a fire break as per council requirements. Since I like to hunt I may use some of the cleared area to test loads and sight in my hunting rifles :D The D7 is on block this week....finally..Woohoo

What's the plan on picking up the dozer.

Ride the Hayabusa up, buy the dozer, drive it home carrying the Hayabusa in the shovel on the front?

Spoke to the dozer operator this morning and he was parked at my fence ready to start. Rain last week delayed starting, as for the Busa I'm not sure how it'd handle with knobby tyres on it. Work is flogging me senseless at the moment with a major project coming to an end and project managers eager to tick boxes before funding expires. Might try for a quick overnight trip later in the week to check progress and test the thermal scope out on some live targets.

Could still work if there is a panel beater next to Brett's place to drop off on the way home

Eastern boundary fence dozed, accommodation area cleared, first run of the long back fence done and all should be complete by Sunday / Monday. Even had a little budget left over to doze a 40mx40m short distance sighting in area :) Just a couple more runs on the long boundary then a little access road clearing and it's finally done...woohoo. Will make a solid attempt to shoot up there Sunday morning early to check it out providing it remains dry as he managed to bog the D7 3 times and the truck twice getting out there last Monday after some heavy rain. Didn't think to ask how he managed to get the dozer out, maybe he snatched it with the prime mover...

Or maybe there is a huge trough running through the middle of your land where he dozed his way to dry ground

All done and the dozer has left the block but not before scoring some major brownie points with my only neighbour by fixing the access road. All up cost was $9,900 for 7 days work and he managed to get all the must do list done plus all the optional extras. I can get a semi trailer into the clearing and there's now a road all the way around the fence line and some internal tracks cleared. I ended up with just over 1500m for load testing and sighting in of the larger rifles, not the 2000m I was after but the land was very cheap so I'm not complaining.

Apparently when he bogged the truck he used the dozer to pull it out. With the dozer he chain sawed some of the trees he knocked over to put under the tracks. As an added bonus my cousin who lives up that way has all the firewood he could want for many many years.

Anybody up Gunnedah way needing some dozer work done then Brett Cooper is the man. Absolute gentleman and man of his word, all the work was done on a handshake and some rough drawings on the ground when he came out for a look. I'm still chasing him for his details so I can pay him and next time I'm up his way ill be dropping off a case of his favourite beer.

What's past the 1,500m mark?

Any possibility to buy another 500m worth from the neighbours block in time?

My block backs onto a seasonal creek so no option to buy in that direction though I have been trying to locate the owner of the block that borders mine on 2 sides to see if he wants to sell. The real estate agent has mailed them but as yet no response so I will wait a bit and see if anything comes back. I'm still looking for something a bit closer to home with at least 200 acres and accessible by car but prices are still a little high. I considered dozing a diagonal track across my block to get more length but heavy bush and some big ass trees killed that idea. I'm very happy with the dozing that's been done, I now have a road around the full perimeter which will help with the fencing I need to get fixed. The area I had marked out for the containers is cleared and flat with enough space to get a prime mover in and turned around once the ground dries up a bit more. Next on the agenda is footings for the containers to get them off the ground to aid in cooling, plumbing and rust prevention. The cuz just bought himself a shiny new plasma cutter which will come in handy cutting doors & windows into the containers once I get them organised. Money is an issue at the moment as my contract expires on the 17th Oct and I'm not sure they will renew me so I may be unemployed for a couple weeks while finding a job but the added bonus is I'll get a couple weeks up bush shooting :)

I reckon a diagonal cut would give you the s**t after a while of crossing it and getting in the way of things you might want to do in the future too.
