Mate of mine recently got his license..
From day of course to license arriving in the mail took just over 3 weeks...
Best I've heard to date..
His PTA taking longer than the license..
No exaggeration, no special circumstances; must of just got lucky..

Safety Course completed last weekend 26/7 Hopefully doesn't take too long for certificate to arrive then will have application done same week.
Silly how the safety course certificate is printed and posted instead of emailed as the application is online

Goodness gracious. I don't remember anybody getting injured in The States because somebody had a pacemaker or Parkinsons. Do they think you are going to twitch your way into accidentally shooting your buddies?

I can understand asking about Parkinsons, just to make sure you can safely control your firearm in regards to how far along the condition is.

I stress asking about it, not restricting by default and making you prove otherwise.

I can't see what a pacemaker has to do with anything at all though?

Yeah the six months from when your club accepts you into the club. So the clock starts ticking then, after you have completed the necessary training and so on, the application gets processed pretty quick, especially when you have an AB already and firearms on that licence.

All the best and remember…Have Fun!

Queeensland Weapons Licensing don't actually give 2 hoots about any licenced shooters or applicants to be licenced shooters. According to Senior Inspector C.R. whatever reasons you supply for justification of your licence doesn't matter because they dont believe anything you say anyway. Authorized Officer Sergeant C.B. doesn't need to follow any of the legislation when processing your application for a licence or a PTA because he recons that Section 25 of the Weapons Act 1990 gives him the right to change anything in the Act or Regulation to suit however he feels at the moment. His ignoring of the legislation is also condoned by his boss Inspector A.S. The best part about all of this is that no matter who you complain to, these officers are not answerable to anyone! At least not that I have found yet, so if you can guess who they might be answerable to please let me know.

But some have been known to get matters straightened out. Its just a pity you have to go to extreme lengths to do that.

Damn Dude thats nothing. Even if I have written permission from a landowner to shoot on his 1 million acre property, I cannot discharge my new rifle until that property has been approved by Queensland weapons licensing. I can NEVER discharge that rifle at any range in Queensland even though the ranges are approved for 9000 ft-lbs of muzzle energy and the rifle develops 6245ft-lbs with a starting load and only exceeds the 9000 with max loads!

Im personally getting close to the 4 month mark. Starting to not care about it, it comes when it does. I have emailed and called them and have on both occasions been polite in regards to the their processes only to be fobbed off. Its easy to see how people completely loose it with licencing

I am now at 3 months and 4 days for a PTA for a Cat B rifle. No end in sight yet. Got a serve from weapons licensing yesterday afternoon for not bending over and copping a load from them.

What exactly have you done? If its a 338 Lapua or something they get all wound up. But they should not be. It is not a regulated rifle any different from a 308.

Have you pissed somebody off?

Having said that my wives PTA came through really quick, (a cat H in 3 working days and then a few days in the mail out). I have one in also since Monday so it will be interesting to see how long that takes.

Ouch. Only one I've ever had take over 2 weeks was for an international import. I left it for a month before calling. Bloke I spoke to was super apologetic that they had put it in the to-do queue pending the B709a and then not gotten back to it. Promised he'd get to it as soon as he could. He rang me back first thing the next morning confirming some details and it was approved and In the letterbox within a couple of days.

This is like how long it takes for us to get a silencer or machinegun (although it can take longer historically). The form is simple enough but we have to pay a tax to Federal Government and it takes them forever to get back to us.

Here is an example of the form that is pretty funny to ease the pain of waiting. Check Section "i" :)

If it is approved on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, they will get sent out Thursday, and if you emailed them well prior to have it faxed to the LGS, it will be sent between 2pm and 4pm on a Thursday.

If you miss that time slot……the next Thursday. :allegedly:

Mine took 18 weeks but I had been doing work as a subby for the QLD Police and had alreadyjumped through numerous security checks .. not sure if this helped but I was happy with 4 months as a buddy had his original app rejected due to a technicality but as with any Govt department .. the squeaky wheel gets the grease or is it high tech lube now lol !

18 weeks…..and being a QPS subbie clearly did not help you.

Not sure that I get checked out every two years by ASIO and the AFP and the star police services helped me either. I must be part of a small group that is so checked out they know more about me than I do. :-/

None of my stuff has been more than a week past the minimum.

PS: Not quite true, my wife got jerked about a bit acquiring some of her dads rifles…..that was strange. And not lawful in terms of excuses. Took her a few weeks more than it should have.
