Been fantasising over a few new toy and I think I'd have to have this

I know it's pretty boring but I'm keen to get my hands on a Remington 783.

I'm looking over new rifles and just want something really good straight out of the box.

Adjustable trigger, floated barrel, pillar bedded stock already done. One of these in 7mm Rem Mag would do me just fine.

Probably not

From memory I think they're about $7,500 + scope, accessories etc.

Realistically I think you'd be looking at a 10 grand kit by the time you were done.

Needless to say I'm not fortunate enough to have one

I really like the synthetic stocks on the Sauer's. That compound rubber or whatever it is, not s**ty plastic list most other brands of rifle use.

Nick Harvey once wrote an article on this subject and if my memory serves me correctly the man's gun was a .270 on a Rem 700 action. Hard to beat if you could only have 1.

As far as one rifle, it would be a savage long action large ring diameter ....

with 52 spare barrels of everything and anything chambering-wise, from 223Rem to 505MagGibbs

Hmm, so first off, it has to be something I can acquire legally here in Australia.


I'd really like something in either .308 or .275 Rigby (7mm mauser), 10 shot mag, the best scope on the market (that cleans itself and does the dishes as well as clean the rifle too for the price) a trigger that breaks with the teeniest bit of extra force to it, cock on opening action alongside a spring loaded mechanism to work the bolt better, bloody brilliant wood stock for hunting, or a full polymer tactical stock with aimpoint sights and a flash supressor, barrel length of 18.5 inch, thick stock with good recoil pad and somewhere to shoot all day long with ammo that works everytime, no recoil and the bullets must fly no less than 40 kilometres before hinting that they are dropping.

Or...just get a cat D license and acquire M107 in .50 cal . That'd work too

Something practical but pretty, maybe a new Mauser left hand with 20" mid weight barrel in 7mm08..... With a nice Ziess scope around 4-20x50 & zVarmint reticle. Would do me for hunting and casual target work. The Mauser could be dropped for Sako, Montana or anything quality with 3 lugs & CRF.

Why a mossberg? Why not the Remington 870 (that's much better).

I have them both the mossberg is a little cheaper and with the safety on the mossberg it is good for left handed to. But both are great if you like one more then the other

Alright, your choice of course, I'd just be a little more partial to remington, that's all.

Their was a time I felt the same way the 870 is a smoother action till my teen needed a shot gun that would work for a lefty and it was about a1/3 less my son is 20 now and has 2 one he got used and the gun is older than him and he has never had any problem with each
