Honestly. Some of the best hunting I've done has been in bad weather.

Rain makes corn, corn makes whiskey
Whiskey makes my baby, feel a little frisky
Back roads are boggin' up, my buddies pile up in my truck
We hunt our hunnies down, we take 'em into town
Start washin' all our worries down the drain

Rain is a good thang! :)

Its annoying to get wet out there....
But the rain can be a good thing as the noise covers the footsteps...the snap crackle and pop when the forest floor is very dry, which is quite usual in areas.

I actually stopped shooting in the rain. I've always been rather bullheaded about weather, food, shelter, who gives a darn as long as I make it back alive. But I take so much stuff to the range, one day I was taking each little piece apart and drying it and cleaning it and oiling it, and I thought, "Why the heck am I putting myself through this?"

A simple hunting rifle and a sidearm would be less of an issue but if the rain bothers you, stay home. Life is too short to be miserable.

That was, until the Australian Army showed up fresh out of Cunungra JTC. Time spent in crappy places like Triple canopy in Malaya, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea, You toss your greens in a pile and burn 'em at the end of a patrol.

Heaps of goats up there this time of year, pigs too. The fox pups are out in force also.

Don't let the rain stop you. They had a bucket of rain last week, 65mm in about 2 hours. Filled up all the water tanks that's for sure!

Get out there.

Yes, I too was thinking of a hunt and try calling up a few feral dogs early this morning but put it on hold due to the early morning storm & rain. We only had 20mm but it's the thunder and lightning that puts me off. I find the ferals tend to find a nice dry, warm spot and stay out of it.

Anyone any thoughts on this subject?

I went out hunting last weekend, it was raining hard on the Saturday but fine on the Sunday, still saw plenty of game. Rain makes them move.

Do you still hoof it around while it's raining or are you in a hide waiting?

I use the rain to my advantage. The rain covers the sound of your steps. It also masks your smell to a degree.

It depends on the kind of hunting you're doing, but I bought a stainless hunting gun for a reason.
