Mossberg 464 Any Love? UPDATE #3

I have a couple of very good hunting rifles but I am a sucker for levers. When I saw that the 464 could be cleaned from the breach, without removing the butt, my interest was aroused straight away. After looking through the topic headings in Rifles, shotguns and pistols without seeing a single reference to Mossberg, I thought of asking these following questions:-

Anyone bought one lately? How is it? Had it long?

I had a look at the Mossberg section on MO and opinion is divided. That means that they are a lottery like a lot of other stuff. With that in mind, I thought of having a gunshop send one to a smith to test it but they would want me to buy it and pay for the test too, wouldn't they? How else could you make sure you weren't buying a dud?

I have not owned one so can't comment in that regard.

However aren't they a copy of the Winchester 1894 and as such I would not say that cleaning from the breech is easy, certainly not as easy as a Marlin 336.
The Marlin has one screw and then you can remove the bolt with finger pressure on it and the ejector.

The Winchester and 464 needs you to remove screws and drift out pins:

Yes you are right mate. Your link is right. I saw much the same on a different youtube vid.
But if I am right about the 94 then the 464 is not an exact copy because I thought the 94 butt had to come off to get the bolt out. Far too much trouble for me and way more than both the Marlin and 464.
But for me, the Mossberg did not look like Too Much trouble. Nearly as easy as the Marlin and half the price but only if they work properly and given the absence of replies to this topic, not too many people own good ones

Four and a half working days after my rifle was dropped off it is fixed
How's that for fast turnaround Another smith here would have to be rung up after two months and he would not have even started. Can't believe my luck and it's my birthday tomorrow

BTW, for those interested:-
The bolt was sticking because a) the chamber was rough and b) there was something sticking to the rear of the bolt.
A sticking magazine follower was stopping the feed from a full magazine.
