I agree wholeheartedly there bloke.
I know this isn't "transmission", but to make a point on "cheaper / easier to fix",,
I recently had an exhaust manifold gasket blow.
When cars were basic, you could go to your local speed shop and buy an extractor gasket which was cheaper than the genuine part, and with a couple of ring spanners the average bloke could effect the repair on the front lawn in about 3/4 hour.
Not so now.
I was told that the exhaust manifold would be warped, and wasn't recommended to have it machined, so a new manifold was in order to go with the real culprit,,,,,, the gasket.
Now I'm pretty handy mechanically, and have a workshop full of tools that a lot of people would drool over,,,,,,,,,
But I still couldn't do this repair myself.
Because the TURBO has to come off to be able to do the gasket and manifold.
Mr Average CANNOT be mucking around with turbos.
End result,,, they kept the price down to a minimum for me,,,,, but it still cost me $1,500.00
In the older days on an EH Holden I could've done it for the cost of the gasket,,,,,,,, from memory, approx. $7.50
Gimmee back "simpler easier more reliable as well as cheaper"
I do not fear death itself... Only its inopportune timing!
I've come to realize that,,,,, the two most loving, loyal, and trustworthy females in my entire life were both canines.
