QLD weapons licencing waits

Questions about Queensland gun and ammunition laws. QLD Weapons Act 1990.

OK, that might be a good sign things are progressing faster for you as their website states- " Be able to attend a Queensland Police Station with 100 points of identification once your application is at the final stages of assessment." It does appear some go through much faster than others although they state it is in order of receipt.

received police ID check requested email today 12-2-2016 which is exactly 9 weeks from when I applied. no doubt the standard email saying- "
I refer to your application for a Weapons Act Licence; the final part of the application process is to provide proof of your identity. This is to be completed by 10 March 2016.

You are required to present yourself, together with a copy of this correspondence with the appropriate proof of identification to -------- Police Station at which time your identity will be verified.

You are required to provide one (1) primary and two (2) secondary documents as proof of your identity.
If the information is not received by the due date, your application is deemed to have been withdrawn pursuant to s14(3) (a) of the Weapons Act 1990.

Please note: The Police are required to conduct a number of checks about you and your application; this may include an inspection of your secure storage facility. These checks may take about fourteen (14) days to complete after your attendance. It is requested that you do not contact Weapons Licensing until after this period. '

Yup I just received the same email on the 17/2, also the emails for both Pta's , so I'm guessing they will all come at once, so just over 9 weeks for mine.

They say a 10-14 day wait for the license to arrive. I was told by weapons licensing the pta will be released a couple days before it's due to arrive to make sure you have your license first.

The problem is actually that you guys have your expectations set WAY too high! It seems like you expect that QWL actually follow the law when the truth is that they actually MAKE UP the laws to suit their own opinions. The main problems is Sergeant CB. For some reason he believes that all licenced firearms owners are hardened criminals who are completely irresponsible and have no ability whatsoever to make educated judgements about firearms and ammunition. He believes that it is therefore his duty to protect us and everybody else from ourselves. Nobody else in the world has anywhere near the knowledge or experience of Sergeant CB and as long as Inspector CR and Inspector AS support sergeant CB in his endeavours to save the world from Queensland licence shooters, you will continue to be treated with the contempt that they feel you deserve!
Just for feedback though, I did manage to get a PTA for a cat B, 416 barrett approved but it took months!

Just received both Pta's in the mail today, they were sent online on 3-1-16 and 13-1-16 (one cat A and 1 cat B), so I guess the license will come tomorrow or Wednesday.

Received A/B license today so that's 11 weeks exactly from the day I applied on the 11-12-15, so far no check done at my home on secure facility but I've been told they don't always do these checks.

Just received my license approval and first PTA via email yesterday the 16th of March. Applied for both on the 8th of February. Making the total wait 1`month and 9 days or just over 5 weeks. Pretty damn quick considering what I was expecting. I received my email to front up to the local Police Station less than 24 hours after I applied. Now to just wait for them to arrive in the mail so I go pick up my first rifle :D

If SSAA is your genuine reason, you will get RE1 (recreational) SC1 (sports) and SC2 (must stay a financial member of club) codes - so you're fine to recreationally hunt.

If you rely on a rural property permission you get RE1 and SC1.

It took me a bit over two months which wouldn't have been so bad if Australia Post's usual incompetence hadn't added another 13 days.

What do you have to do, use the dealer's address as your mailing address?

Nope. Still use your address.

Apply online and you then get an email receipt. There's a reference number in the email.

Then you just shoot an email to (from memory) [email protected] and say something along the lines of:

"Hi

I applied for a permit just before.

Could I please have it faxed to (insert dealer name)?

My details are:
Alex M
Licence no: 1234
Permit reference: 1234"

Or you can just call them and ask.

Thanks, hopefully this will save me another trip to Brisbane and it'll be nice to know I'm making some bureaucrats do some actual work for their $35.70.

my wifes H arrived by mail Thursday the 5th, Applied 18th been a Monday and all licences are printed in Victoria.. so mail delays the process..however WLB sent email saying that PTA will be a 28 day wait from time of applying, -- she already has a Firearm Cat B , so she rang them and apparently A and B licensing does not talk to cat H hence the clitch in the system of a second 28 day wait, - they were good and said they will process the PTA over the weekend and fax to dealer... so if you have firearms ring up if applying for first PTA for Cat H...
why cant they put cat A an B on same lic with conditions printed next to each category! 2 licence numbers is simply stupid....
