A little update to my posting from a few days back. I got out to the range on Sunday with a few of the guns I inherited from my father, in the batch was a S&W 422 with a 6 inch barrel, adjustable sights.
What I can I tell you about it, after about 50 rounds, is this. It is light in weight compared to my Buckmark, but not excessively so. The "controls" are a bit different but not drastically so, the slide release is back next to the manual safety and the magazine release is positioned in the middle of the pistol grip's fore strap, the magazine holds 10 rounds The adjustable sight give a clear sight picture and the trigger while not the equal to my Ruger Gov't Target or Competition Models is acceptable.
Now when I shot the gun I was using Winchester's bulk packed high velocity 38 gr lead hollow point ammunition, my distance was about 30 to 40 feet away from the target and I was firing from a sitting position without the use of a rest of any type. I'm 60 years old and my optometrist tells me my eyes are no longer correctable to 20/20. So taking all those factors into consideration I was happy with the 5 inch, with most shots hitting inside of 4 inches, groups I got. The low set barrel looks odd during loading but I think it's low setting does help mitigate recoil.
I've been asked: "How many guns do you need to have?" My answer remains the same: "One more."
